Well I guess you could say things are getting serious! Thanks to a very generous donation from an old sparring/training partner of mine from Saint John Golden G...loves Archie Hudson we were able to add this bottle of Hennessy to our booze prize package, that's a $100 bottle of cognac! Early this week I made a post about an old friend buying one of our coat racks and donating it to one of our boxers. I was immediately contacted by a couple o...ld friends and asked if they could do the same. Chris Caines asked to donate one and then Bill McNeill asked if he could donate two. I was blown away by their generosity and willingness to do something for kids they didn't even know. Well today I presented the racks to some very deserving kids. The first two I gave to Liv and Yanna. If we had any success stories in this crazy year, these girls are it! Without giving too much detail, the fact that these girls have reached the level in our gym that they have is miraculous. If you saw how hard it was for them to start and where they are now you would be as proud of them as I am. From barely being able to come in the door the first time to becoming very positive leaders in our gym and now helping coach the younger kids. I am so very proud of them both. The Last rack was given to Brady. This young man comes in every day, ready to train, is so polite and respectful to everyone and works so hard on his skills everyday. It was so nice to be able to reward him for not only working so hard, but for just being a great kid! See more

This is my preschool early skills program. I developed this program just before I opened my gym and I had a very clear vision of what kind of program I wanted i...t to be. I wanted to combine being a black belt and trained and experienced early childhood educator. My goal was to try and touch on all aspects of early childhood development, not just teach the kids to throw kicks and punches. Working with kids all of my adult life with 6 of those years as a fulltime daycare worker, I had a good understanding of how important it is to foster not only physical development but also social, emotional and cognitive development. So in this program I take every opportunity to use colors, numbers, counting cooperation , taking directions and taking turns. All skills these kids will need when they enter school. I see it as my responsibility to do this. See more

When I woke up this morning and got out of bed I am pretty sure that the thought of covid and all the negativity that goes along with it started going around in... my head before my feet even hit the floor. That all changed when I grabbed my coffee and sat in front of my laptop, started scrolling through facebook and reading all the positive comments about a picture I posted last night. The picture was of me and a little boy I gave one of our coat racks to that was donated by an old sparring partner. The very positive snowball affect that started with one person going out of his way to make these racks free of charge to help us keep our heads above water through the financial hardship that covid has created has amazed me. A few weeks back Phil Boyle, without being asked, came up with this idea. He asked his employer , Bourque Industrial for permission to make them and a coworker of Phils volunteered to help. From there Jeff and Liz Fulton from the pub down under paid for the metal needed to make them, again without being asked. From there my friends at Hoodlum Customs, Chuck and Alia offered to paint them all, free of charge and pretty much turned them into works of art! Then, and old friend and former sparring/training partner from Saint John Golden Gloves Archie Hudson, asked if he could pay for one and donate it to a hard working kid at the boxing club. That was the picture from last night. Then this morning I get a message from Chris Caines offering to do the same. After that a message from Bill McNeill who bought 2 and asked me to find two kids to give them to. I am so appreciative of the generosity and the willingness of people to do have a positive affect on kids they don't know and will likely never meet. I am very thankful today, even though the day didn't start that way. Thank you everyone.

When I first started my gym I had a very specific goal in mind, and that was to get everybody and anybody involved. Not for the sport itself, but the specific benefits that it could offer anyone, no matter age, gender or fitness level. I especially wanted to get as many kids involved as I could. I also new that even if there were kids that did not have the financial means to become involved that I would never turn them away and would find a way for them to participate. 12 years later and we have done just that, over and over again. WOW! Very grateful this morning. I was driving around Rothesay and Quispamsis, stopping at local businesses and dropping off letters for our community partners program. I stopped at Premier Trailers Sales and Service and gave them a letter. I got in my truck and was turning around when they asked me to come back in, they put a check in my hand before I left the driveway. Thank you so much for the support, we are very appreciative!

Wednesday night Fight Camp!

In a time when we are asking for the community for help with our community partners program, I think its important that we always give back to the community as ...well. Today we were able to do exactly that. This afternoon Nancy and I went to the Imperial theater and presented a check for TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY DOLLARS to the Empty Stocking fund! This money was raised by an event organized by KV Boxing member Kelly VanBuskirk with the help of coaches Nancy, Emily and Lish. My buddy Archie Hudson bought one of our coat rack/bag rack/keyrack and asked me to give it one of the kids at the gym that was a hard worker or was always help...ing, generally just being a good human being and I chose this little guy. His name is Ajdin.He is such an amazing little boy. From day one was focused and a very hard worker. He always helps without being asked. He is always working to get better and is so amazing and a good friend to all the other kids, especially making new kids feel welcomed. And he comes in every Saturday to help with the younger kids. I was going to hold on to this for a bit but what the hell. 2021 will mark 15 years since I developed and started the "Fight Like A Girl" ladies only boxing pr...ogram. When I did I had no idea how much of a success it would be become. There have been thousands of women come through this program, some of the original women that started with me at the Saint John Boxing club are still in the program with me today. Aside from empowering so many women, regardless of age or fitness level, this program has produced some of the best female boxers in the province, even though it was never designed to be geared towards competition, that just happened. To date it has produced 2 provincial Champions, a national medalist and some of the best female coaches around, not bad for something that was designed as a fitness program. I have absolutely no doubt the best is yet to come. KV Boxing-Hi Everyone. With the rapid increase of covid 19 cases in the last couple days and the probability of us going back into the orange phase I have made ...the decision to close the gym for the weekend to give it a very thorough cleaning. It may be overkill but we are a very busy gym that serve a lot of kids. I want to make sure that we are being proactive and doing our part to keep everyone safe. there will be no programs running from now until Monday morning, during which time the gym will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. A couple changes for thanksgiving Monday. Kickboxing will be at 12 noon and ladies 10:30 AM fight like a girl is canceled 5:50 ladies program, Amateur boxing and fight camp will be running as usual. All other programs are running as usual. #familyoffighters

Kickboxing for Labour Day 2020

This is my Silver Gloves boxing program (5-7 years) I love coaching this age group and it definitely challenges me as a coach. Most people that come into the gy...m to learn boxing usually have an idea what it is, typically thats not the case with this age unless they have been exposed to it by someone. They have no preconceived notion as to what boxing is. Just getting them to keep the proper foot in the front and telling them the hand they don't use for much is now the most important is a challenge. For a long time boxing clubs haven't taken kids under the age of 8 but there has been a shift in that in the last few years. I believe Saint John Golden Gloves recently started a program for this age that filled pretty quickly which shows that there are kids this age that want to learn the sport. #familyoffighters See more

Last week we had a free introduction to our kickboxing program. Weve had a lot of comments from people saying that they were too intimidated to try it or they didn't think they were fit enough . So we decided to invite everyone in to see how very welcoming and beginner friendly it is. We had such a great turn out which turned into having people show up the next night for class and jump right in! I had some of my young boxers receive their level one basics certification last week. To get this you have to earn it and your basic skill and knowledge has to ...be solid, not perfect but solid. I get so much satisfaction watching the kids and how proud they are. Two of my boxers earlier this week earning their boxing basics certificate. When I came with this idea it really had very little to do with the piece of paper they are holding but a lot to do with what they had to do to get it. In a world of "everybody gets a trophy" and instant gratification I try to teach the kids that if you want something, then you work for it. In doing that the kids learn commitment, hard work, self discipline and so many other old school values that I think are so important. #familyoffighters

Happy 12th Anniversary !!!!!! We've been together through thick and thin, new classes and new coaches, reno's and an app (yes we've got an app for that). We've become a family as have fought in our own lives for everything we've recieved and we are so honoured to have fought along beside you, you've inspired us to conitnue to evolve and become a leaner fighting machine so thank you for everything you've done for us to create this #FamilyofFighters we wouldn't be here without you.
