As of today, Nov. 23, Nova Scotia has 51 active cases of COVID-19. Eleven new cases were identified Sunday, Nov. 22. All 11 new cases are in Central Zone. Eight are connected to previously reported cases; three are under investigation. One of the cases was detected Saturday, Nov. 21, in a pilot rapid COVID-19 screening program for bar staff and patrons in downtown Halifax. The recent rise in cases has led to new restrictions in metro Halifax Regional Municipality and parts of... Hants County which came into effect today, Nov. 23. The restrictions can be found at https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/county-restrictions/ . Also today, the Atlantic premiers are calling on people in the region to limit their travel. "Nova Scotia is urging people to limit travel for the next two weeks. I respect the decision of the provinces of Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador to take further steps at this time," said Premier Stephen McNeil. "Our border with New Brunswick continues to be monitored. There are a number of people on both sides of our shared border who drive back and forth for work or other essential reasons, and they can continue to do so. But for anyone considering a shopping trip or other non-essential travel, we are asking you not to go. This is another step we can take to slow the spread of COVID-19." The Atlantic premiers agreed that measures will be reviewed with the advice of Atlantic chief medical officers of health. "Today's changes to the Atlantic bubble - with two Atlantic provinces asking their citizens to quarantine after visiting here - is a stark reminder that we need to do all that we can to stop the spread of this virus in Nova Scotia," said Dr. Robert Strang, chief medical officer of health. "COVID-19 has found its way back into our communities. It is the responsibility of all of us to move quickly and stop it from spreading further. Reduce your social circle and activities, and strictly follow public health measures." Nova Scotia Health Authority's labs completed 1,143 Nova Scotia tests on Nov. 22. To date, Nova Scotia has had 128,972 negative test results, 1,190 positive COVID-19 cases and 65 deaths. No one is currently in hospital. Cases range in age from under 10 to over 90. One thousand and seventy-four cases are now resolved. Cases have been identified in all parts of the province. Cumulative cases by zone may change as data is updated in Panorama.

Parents, teachers, and students need our support as the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to develop. As we find ourselves facing a second wave, technology will play an increasingly important role when it comes to learning. That’s why our government is investing an additional $21.5 million for 32,000 Chromebooks and equipment upgrades. Our back-to-school plan is designed with contingencies in mind, including blended and at-home learning options, and our education system is prepared to account for these scenarios. Today’s announcement represents thousands of new devices that will benefit students and teachers now and into the future.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to remember and honour the many lives lost due to unacceptance, stigma, discrimination and violence toward transgender and non-gender conforming individuals. We each have a responsibility to create a more inclusive and diverse society and to ensure equal rights for all Nova Scotians.

Nova Scotia continues to be recognized as a leader in energy efficiency. Our province has placed third nationally in Efficiency Canada's second annual Provincial Energy Efficiency Scorecard. The scorecard is a comprehensive benchmarking of provincial energy efficiency policies across the country. Our government’s programs are designed to reduce both greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs, while protecting our environment and creating well-paying green jobs right here in Nova Scotia. That’s why we’re investing $120 million over the next three years in programs that reduce emissions and fight climate change and an additional $25 million in deep energy efficiency retrofits for indigenous and community housing.

The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS) announced the winners of the international design competition for the new Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Waterfront Arts District. The winning design team's submission outlines a new AGNS that offers an array of accessible experiences. It embodies a vision of a place for all seasons, rooted in sustainability, and connecting the city at the water. The design features a striking peaked hat shape at the entrance, an iconic shape which is a s...ymbol of the strength, wisdom, love and power that women hold within Mi'kmaw communities. The art and culture sector helps tell the story of who we are as Nova Scotians. Our government is proud to have contributed $70 million to this project, as we recognize the importance of inclusive public spaces and the role they play in our lives, our communities and our economy. We look forward to working with the gallery, the newly selected architectural team, and the public, to shape a final design that is a meaningful and accurate reflection of the diversity of our communities. I’m so fortunate to have my daughters along for this campaign. They’re a daily reminder of the people I’m running for. No shortage of fun in Daddy’s campaign office.
