Over the weekend (January 30 and 31) - thanks to the very cold temperatures we've been having - our students enjoyed skating on Lake Katchewanooka! It was a great end to their first week of in-person classes. Thanks to our students and amazing Facilities Team for making this possible!

Students danced, sung and enjoyed our first big snowfall of the year while sharing their holiday spirit and connecting with our local community (something that has been harder than ever this year).

This club aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health through education, promoting awareness, and creating initiatives to boost the well-being of their peers and community. Through identification and dismantling of barriers, they work to enable positive mental health experiences for all. Students talked about available supports such as our On-Campus Counsellor Ms. Cosgrove, and strategies such as doing things for yourself and others and an upcoming Acts of Kindness House Challenge.
#tbt to our 1994 Faculty and first Dons! Who can you spot in this photo?
We used the forest as our 'studio' and the trees as 'props' to practice Standing Pigeon Pose as well as several Qigong (tradition martial arts training technique) sequences. Part of our time together always includes a meditation walk component walking into and then out of the forest - no screens, no talking! Just opening the senses and breathing... - LCS Yoga Instructor Ms. Braeckman on yesterday’s Yoga Class.

The Grade 9 Learning in the Outdoors students worked on their problem solving and teamwork skills while trying to move water from one barrel to another. They had to use the pipes to move the water and could not travel themselves when they had water in their pipe. They earned different connection pieces for demonstrating good teamwork skills such as encouraging their teammates, active listening involving all members of their team. They were required to come up with a plan, execute the plan and revise their plan at certain points. #authenticlearning #outdoorseveryday

What a beautiful Thanksgiving Weekend we had here at LCS! We couldn’t have asked for better weather and more stunning colours
This fall the grade 10 Canadian History Class has been focusing on World War I and Canada's involvement. In order to understand life in the trenches and how they were constructed, Ms. Colling's class constructed models of trenches out of clay, and a few other objects that were brought in from home or found outside. The students worked in partners to construct these models and label the important parts. They are on display in the visual art display cabinet for the next couple of weeks.
Max McEachern '13 has launched "Morning Movement with Max" in partnership with THRIVE (our health and well-being initiative) for all LCS students and staff: Are you a morning person? Do you want to be a morning person? Do you want to have more energy before your first period?... Do you want to watch the sunrise? If you answered YES to any of those questions then join us at these times EVERY WEEK: Tuesday: Rise and Shine Stretch 7:30 In the Grove Wednesday: FUN RUN 7:30 Red Doors Thursday: Canoe on the Lake 7:15 Waterfront
Students enjoyed spending their Thanksgiving doing traditional activities like apple picking, pumpkin patch picking and finding new ways to celebrate safely in Houses with an outdoor Thanksgiving dinner. We had 124 students spend Thanksgiving weekend at The Grove!
Taking advantage of the great weather, our students have been taking their learning outdoors! #OutdoorsEveryday

First day at the Ropes course. Students in the Leadership in Outdoor Recreation (LOR) class are getting ready to work on instructional techniques. They will be learning about how to become effective instructors with an understanding of cognitive and motor development. Knot tying is a motor skill that requires consistent practice and repetition. Kids in the LOR class learn all about the safety and redundancy of safety systems at the ropes course before they start to climb. Students will likely be ready to tackle the new challenges at the ropes course early next week. -Outdoor Experiential Education teacher Mr. Andras
This afternoon at the waterfront #apaddleapart #outdoorseveryday
Students are hard at work doing an experiment to examine equilibrium chemistry in AP Chemistry class today with Mr. Melville.
We were so lucky to hear from Canadian Olympian Sarah Wells yesterday. She spoke to our school community about resilience, goal setting, and pushing through. Hard work doesnt always lead to success. But resilience will always lead to another opportunity for success. -Ms. Wilcox
Sharing joy through movement at appropriate distances. Dance class under the tent at out beautiful waterfront. Welcome back LCS dancers!
#tbt to fall sweaters and being with friends. This fall season looks a little different than others but there is so much thats the same, like being with friends, bring outdoors everyday and of course, fall sweaters (although those look a little different in 2020 too )
At yesterdays House meeting, the men of Lower Colebrook House challenged each other to the Box Rope Challenge, a game of strategy, speed and balance; celebrated three recent birthdays with homemade cupcakes; and were introduced to Lowers Grove Award. The G of the Week is passed on weekly (from one recipient to the next) to members of the House who are acknowledged for their good deedswithin the community, in clubs or the house. This week, Mr. Ross nominated the SICs of Lower for their exceptional leadership during this past orientation week.
Ms. Confesor shared how keeping our remote students engaged in class is key to an enriched learning experience for everyone. Our students are doing an amazing job collaborating through Zoom!
Co-curricular fun and learning safely continues at The Grove!
Combining Authentic Learning and Safety First to offer our in-person and remote students an amazing learning experience. We're also using our beautiful 315-acre campus for outdoor learning and community gatherings!
Highlights from our first day of classes yesterday! We had a wonderful first Chapel of the year led by our Co-Head Students and SICs of Chapel, offered both live and remote. Our faculty are also offering creative, authentic and safe learning experiences for our in-person and remote students.
Today we are having the Weekly Co-Curricular Open House! Students visit at least one program (and are encouraged to visit more) to ask questions and learn more about all the programs like String Ensemble, Model UN, Coding Club, Business Club or LEAF. NEW this year... Grove Records! We are launching our very own record label under the guidance of JUNO nominated songwriter, producer and musician Rob Wells and LCS arts teacher Geoff Bemrose. Students will write and record fully-produced songs, shoot music videos and distribute them on digital platforms. They will benefit from working with a variety of current industry professionals and hone their skills in all the different departments that make a record label tick.
Go Grove! Some enthusiastic early-morning athletes were seen working out in the rain with Ms. Looije on Andy Harris field this morning.
The 2020/21 school year has begun! Throughout the week we've been welcoming new and returning students safely onto campus. They have been enjoying a variety of orientation activities and reviewing our new safety measures to keep our community healthy. Here are some highlights! Note: Students were able to be a little closer than the (new) usual six feet while wearing a mask.
