Over the past two evenings, the Rodeo Team participated in a TEAM CHALLENGE. Tuesday evening consisted of timed events and last night we concluded with the Roughstock! Rodeo team members were split into 3 teams. Each event was jackpotted separately and then the teams total times were added up to determine an overall winner!! Congratulations TEAM BLUE!... Thank you to Chrome Diesel for sponsoring go-mugs to each winning team member! Thank you to Dale Woodward, C5 Rodeo and Wild Hoggs for bringing us horses and bulls to buck last night!!

The safety and well being of our Rodeo Athletes is a HIGH priority. Baseline concussion testing was completed for our Saddle Bronc, Bareback and Bull Riders. Introducing Ty Livingstone... Ty is once again helping out our Rodeo Team Steer Wrestlers for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. Ty was a member of the Rodeo Team himself in 2017 and 2018. He is a 2x Canadian College Rodeo Champion, once in the heading and once in the steer wrestling and 4x CCFR qualifier, he is also a 2x WRA, FCA and LRA Finalist. Ty keeps himself busy as certified farrier and can be found quite often working on horses here at the College!

As we are gearing up for our first Barrel Racing/Pole Bending practice of the year, I would like to welcome back the talented Rusty Rae Woodward as the Barrel Racing/Pole Bending Coach for the 2020-2021 School Year. Rusty is a 2x Final 4 Showdown Qualifier at the Calgary Stampede, 2x CFR Qualifier and the 2004 CFR Average Winner. Rusty is a well known futurity barrel horse trainer with a strong rodeo background. As Student Residence move-in week continues, I want to WELCOME all new and returning students. This Fall will look a little different, however, Lakeland College is doing its very best to ensure the safety of students is the #1 priority while obtaining their post secondary education. The RODEO TEAM will continue to be active with weekly practice to ensure we are ready to RODEO when allowed!... Unfortunately the Equine Centre remains CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. Unfortunately we were unable to have a year-end banquet for our Club, however, I still wanted to recognize those individuals who represent our club/team and go above and beyond, whether its to lead our club, help out whenever possible, or excel inside the arena. This year scholarships were awarded to those recipients. Congratulations to the following: Fayth Panchuk - 2019-2020 Rodeo Club President.... The President position is not an easy task and Fayth stepped up and did a tremendous job as the club leader! Congrats on a great year! Wishing you the very best for the years to come! Mikayla Flint - Sportsmanship of the Year. This is a prestigious award that is recognized by the rest of the club. Mikayla was very dedicated to the club and never missed a practice. You could be sure to find her in the arena several nights of the week! Mikayla was always willing to lend a helping hand and did so with a smile! Jace Thorsteinson - Volunteer of the Year. Jace dedicated several volunteer hours including announcing every barrel racing, team roping and fun rodeo! Thank you Jace for you dedication to the Rodeo Club! Your talent behind the mic was greatly appreciated! Colter Taylor - Cowboy of the Year. Colter is a multi-event cowboy and represented the Lakeland College Rustlers very well during the 2019-2020 CIRA Season. He is dedicated cowboy who was always willing to lend a hand and rarely missed an opportunity to get in the practice pen. Colter finished the year as the Year End Steer Wrestling Champion. Congrats Colter on a great Fall! Jaymie Conrad - Cowgirl of the Year. Jaymie and her fast buckskin gelding dominated the Barrel Racing and Pole Bending at the CIRA rodeo and represent Lakeland very well. She is a dedicated athlete that very rarely misses out on a practice! Jaymie finished the season as the Year End Pole Bending Champion! Congrats on a great Fall Run!
