The newly tracked trails appear to have held up well today, as you can see in these photos, taken this evening. However, the wind overnight tonight, coupled wi...th the milder temperatures (and wind) forecasted tomorrow might not help, sadly. So get out early tomorrow if you’re planning on skiing. We’ll re-set these trails, and one or two others tomorrow night. Stay tuned. See more

It's National Volunteer Week! We were hoping to get our volunteer game back in action this spring, but with the stay-at-home order we had to delay any kind of volunteer event until at least May 20. And that's okay, safety first! We do have some fun volunteer trailwork sessions planned though, once it is safe to do so, like building a beaver lodge and improving trails. So stay tuned for that!... On this note of course, we must emphasize just how important volunteers are. Pretty much every boardwalk, viewing deck, bench, reroute or trail improvement was built, installed or completed by hard-working, selfless volunteers. It is because of these fine folks, that the Lake Laurentian Conservation is as beautiful and as well maintained as it is. So if you are or have been a volunteer at the LLCA, give yourself a little pat on the back right now and feel good knowing that you have helped keep people active and engaged with nature. We only hope to return your show of gratitude by continuing to protect the area and keeping it accessible for all for many many years to come. Thank You...

Let's talk about PARKING!!! Specifically, parking at Ida Street access. People, just like you, live in that neighbourhood and they need to go to work or get groceries like the rest of us. So when the road is packed full of cars, it makes that difficult at times. Fear not! We have teamed up with the friendly folks at Ethier Sand & Gravel Ltd to offer trail users some pretty convenient parking options. While parking on the street is available, we strongly encourage users to tak...e advantage of the arguably easier parking in front of Ethier Sand & Gravel Ltd. Users can park here after 5pm on weekdays and all day on weekends. Heck, you even get some more steps in! What more could you want! Not only will you get more steps in, you will be a considerate fellow citizen to those living on Ida Street. Being nice is the new cool. P.S. Thank you Ethier Sand & Gravel Ltd for your continued support!

We know some of the picnic tables are in rough shape, but this seems like a bit of an over reaction . We also accept emails. Fear not, the picnic table was retrieved (using a rake) and is ready for service once again. Thank you picnic table for supporting us (literally) all these years. We hope to retire you soon. Or if you were just having a bad day and needed to throw something, we can talk about that too. #mentalhealth

Ice safety reminder! We have attached the classic ice thickness chart which shows how thick the ice needs to be to do a certain activity. Ice thickness on Lake Laurentian was measured today and there is about 10" of ice.... * Please note that we do not post regular updates of ice thickness measurements. Be safe!

Not only are every one of our sign posts equipped with a GPS location (that emergency services have on file), now you can download this app (it's free!) as well to add another tool to your safety toolbox while out using the trails. Stay safe everyone. https://www.thesudburystar.com//cf3b0195-49be-428d-a852-c4

Today's task...floating snow! Our friends at BioSki Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe Club needed some help getting more snow onto the trail so we helped out as much as we could.

Just an FYI, we now have different dog poo bags in our Mutt Mitt dispensers. They are a little nicer on the environment and are on a roll like bags at the grocery store. Watch the video to see how to remove one! Don't worry...it's really easy!

Happy New Year Sudbury! Trails crew is back at it. First order of business... Tis the season for skiing! Everyone has been pretty good about not walking on the ski trails. Thank you. Please use caution whenever crossing the ski trail on foot. Also, there are two distinct trails at the Link Trail trailhead. Please use the foot path for walking.... Happy outdoorsing! (Not sure if that is a real word but we are making it one) Cheers! BioSki Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe Club

Volunteer Opportunity! We need your help cleaning up the Nature Chalet parking lot and surrounding area! Access points and trails can be really gross in the spring with garbage, dog poo and everything and anything else, rearing its ugly head when the snow melts. So we are gonna clean all that up! Disposable gloves, garbage bags and hand sanitizer will be provided. Please bring a mask. You will need to wear it for the entire duration of the session. A mask will be provided to ...you, if you arrive with no mask. We currently need to cap sessions to 10 people or less due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions. We will work our way down to the BioSki parking lot should time allow. We are kindly asking those interested to pre-register here https://nickeldistrictconservationfoundation.salsalabs.org/ * Participants must be a registered trails volunteer with the Nickel District Conservation Foundation and Conservation Sudbury. Please register to become a trails volunteer here https://nickeldistrictconservationfoundation.salsalabs.org/ * Participants must have signed and submitted the "Volunteer Waiver & Release Form" which is completed during the registration process. Copies of this form will be on-site at every session if you are unable to complete online. Thank you for volunteering with the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area!
