We participated in the #Porchtraitproject as a way to both support great causes, BC Cancer Foundation and JFS Vancouver, BC, and to have photos to look back on as a memory of our time in lockdown. Thanks to the talented photographer, Alisa Delisle and amazing Stacey Sobol-Kape for organizing this thoughtful project.
Volunteering as a family twice a week to deliver much needed food from the JFS Food Bank has been both a cathartic and bonding experience during this difficult time in our world. I only wish there wasn't such a need for us to do this!
Maintained a social distance as best as possible, but went out this morning to help pack hampers at a local Food Bank. Now, more than ever, our food banks need our support both financially and through volunteerism.
What a great way to spend the day.... helping to pack the 2200 Zacpacks being delivered to over 30 agencies that will distribute them to homeless people in Vancouver. Honoured to have been a part of this exciting project created by 12 year old Zac.
It was a privilege to participate in the 1 Billion Rising event tonight at the JCC during World Interfaith Harmony Week, where we shared ideas of creating unity and eliminating discrimination and put together 500 care packages to be delivered to those in need. https://facebook.com/events/s/vancouver-1-billion-rising-low/604186013727661/?ti=icl
An awesome day in Ottawa meeting MPs from all parties and attending the CIJA / CJPAC Wine and Cheese @ Parliament Hill
Whatever you celebrate.....I hope you enjoy!!!
Today I presented 25 Vancouver Quadra volunteers with my MP office's 2020 Hidden Heroes Award. These are our neighbours who have stepped up, some during COVID-1...9, to selflessly help others in our community or elsewhere. What an inspiring and wonderful group of people! P.S. Stay tuned for the video release of the ceremony!
For anyone unaware of how much Anti-Semitism exists in our world today, check out #JewishPrivilege on Twitter. https://www.google.ca//nati/world/2020/7/13/1_5022216.html We need to come together as a human race and stop all forms of hatred!!!... My #JewishPrivilege is hearing about a 15 year old boy, while looking into the eyes of my then 14 year old son while playing floor hockey at school, solemnly saying to him, "someone needs to annihilate the Jews". My #JewishPrivilege is also knowing very little about my paternal grandfather's side of the family, whose parents and 6 sisters were murdered in Auschwitz, because my grandparents just couldn't talk about it.
Never felt so grateful to live in this great country of ours as I do right now!
I'm so disheartened by what is going on in our world today. The senseless killings of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd and the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet are beyond tragic. The Anti-Asian racism and xenophobia, as exhibited by vile attacks against members of our Asian community, are intolerable. The rise of anti-semitism, as evidenced by recent incidents in Montreal and LA, is unacceptable. Now, more than ever, we need to come together as a human race, embrace our differences and, regardless of race, religion, background, sexual orientation, etc, etc... TREAT EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THIS EARTH with KINDNESS, RESPECT, DIGNITY and COMPASSION. We're all in this together.
Do you have a small business where cash flow is a concern in light of Covid-19? Do you have friends who own and/or do you normally patronize small businesses who are struggling and need revenue asap and you’d like to help them survive? If so, visit www.savebiz.ca where BC small businesses can easily register and begin selling gift cards to generate immediate cash flow that can be redeemed once the business re-opens after June 1st. Even once businesses open, we believe it will... take a while before a sufficient number of customers patronize these businesses and enable them to get to and through breakeven. For this reason, I established www.Savebiz.ca and then partnered in BC with www.giftforward.co. The way it works is that a customer buys a discounted gift card to their local business on the website which manages the entire gift card process and sends money weekly to provide businesses with the cash they need. (Businesses do NOT need to have gift cards already). To be clear, this is a social venture, nobody is making any money off of this. A group of mostly strangers have come together for the greater good of helping save small businesses in Canada. No fees are charged whatsoever and only credit card processing fees are passed through to consumers. If you have questions, check out https://giftforward.co/pages/faqs or email [email protected] Please share this with every small business owner you know. Help save BC small business.
