Spring, spring is coming soon, grass is green and flowers bloom! We had fun getting crafty last night at our Wreath n' Sip! Everyone made the first letter of their name, and with some flowers and creativity taddahhh - look at these beautiful wreaths.

It is Volunteer Week! Let's take a moment to appreciate the dedicated volunteers at L'Arche Hamilton who have supported us in so many activities, from going for walks to making crafts, from making meals to being virtual pen-pals during a pandemic. Community Member Spotlight This week we meet Krishna, the House Leader at Charbonneau, who inspires us deeply by living the core values of L’Arche and her Christian faith. How long have you been in the L’Arche community? ... I’ve been in L’arche 9 years. 2 years in L’Arche Arnprior and 7 in L’Arche Hamilton. What is your favourite food? Most Jamaican meals but I guess red peas (beans) soup or stew peas with pigtails would be the absolute favourite. What is your favourite movie? I don’t think I have one but I love the Marvel Universe movies, especially the Avengers series and Black Panther and Korean Dramas. What do you love most about L’Arche? I love that I can feel like I have traveled to several different countries because I get to interact with so many people of different nationalities within the community and the houses. What is your favourite memory of L’Arche? I have a couple based on interactions with different core members but the one that comes to mind right now is while working with Nancy, she took my hand and placed it next to hers. She then looked at my hand and said, ‘brown!’ and I said, ‘yes, my hand is brown’. She then looked at her hand and said, ‘Pink!’, I chuckled and said, ‘yeah, sure, I guess your hand does look pink’. She placed them together and then said, ‘same!’ What was your favourite trip/vacation? My favourite L’arche trip was to take a couple of L’Arche Arnprior core members to Jamaica. My favourite personal trip was going to Aruba. What is the most important thing for you on your goal/bucket list? As a Christian, my main goal/prayer is to die empty of the gifts God placed on the inside me . Meaning I have used all my talents/gifts and accomplished what He had placed for me to do in this world. I’d also love to travel a lot more lol. Have you ever met a celebrity? I’ve met Usain Bolt and Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce. What is a unique thing about you that you would love other people to know? I’m an extroverted introvert. I can be very social but I can also become very drained from too much non-essential interactions, I LOVE time spent by myself doing absolutely nothing. I’m also fiercely loyal and very protective of those I call my own. Would you like to tell others about your family? I am married and have two little girls whom I love dearly. I have a very strong relationship with my mother and I’m like a second mom to my younger brothers. My favourite aunt still lives in Jamaica and we talk on the phone ALL the time. Family is very important to me. What is your background? Do you come from another land? I am from Jamaica! The land of wood and water. Community Member Spotlight Today we feature Chris from the Day Program, who has been sharing his charm and talents with us for over 11 years! Here's a list of Chris' favourites:... Food: Hamburgers and fries Movie: Home Alone (and scary ones) Trip: Summer camp and Niagara Falls Love about L'Arche: My friends and games. Unique fact: I love all kinds of music. Emma from the Day Program shares this about Chris: "Chris is one of the most welcoming people I have met, he will always get excited for new people to come in the door, or even people he sees every day. Chris is known for drawing suns with little smiling faces. They are his go to drawing, and along with that, he loves to write. Walking through the Day Program you are more than likely going to find a few random pieces of paper laying around with little doodled suns and things like 'Carrie Underwood, Duran Duran, Hungry Like a Wolf, Ultimate Wrestler, Hamilton Tiger Cats, Tim Hortons', and other funny things like, 'I can draw chicken, and ultimate warrior, and Honky Tonk Man', which we have up on our fridge. Chris is a lover of all music, especially country and classic rock. He loves Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, as well as Def Leppard, Duran Duran and Michael Jackson. You should see him do his laugh at the end of the Thriller song... its amazing. When our music guests are performing at Day Program he is one of the first to start rocking out with air guitar , and sometimes even with a broom . He loves going on trips, and really likes going out to Tim Hortons or Coffee Culture on Fridays ." Thanks Chris for lighting up our lives in the Day Program!

Our marquee fundraising event is just a few weeks away! Tuesday, December 1st is our 42nd anniversary serving the city of Hamilton! It is also Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving back to those charities who make a difference in our community. We've chosen this day to host our Family Dinner Takeout Fundraiser done in collaboration with, and gratitude to, the Knights of Columbus and their Columbus House Catering on Queenston Road. The Knights have long been a generous s...upporter of L'Arche Hamilton and we are so happy to be partnering with them for this important evening. This replaces all of our in-person fundraising dinners, cafes, etc. for the year that had to be canceled due to COVID-19. Therefore, this is your chance to help L’Arche and our local Knights of Columbus, done right at your very own kitchen table. We will be releasing more details every week; here is what you need to know: We have family dinners for 4 available as well as a dinner for one with vegetarian lasagna offered for those who are vegetarian. You can purchase a dinner for one ($20) or a dinner for 4 ($80). If you can't participate in person (live too far away, busy that night, etc.) you can donate a meal to one of our homes instead! You also have the option to add on a tax-deductible donation to L'Arche with your order. (Please note that only the tax-deductible extra gifts will qualify for a tax receipt). All orders are placed online and must be placed by Friday Nov 27. All orders will include a mystery surprise, an original art piece by our Core Members!
