One decade ago today, Lawrence opened it’s (slightly too heavy) door for the first time. I was upset and panicking that the smoked trout turned out too salty. Annika, Sefi and Ethan were freaking out because they realised like an hour before service started that the table bases were way too small for the table tops and needed to be exchanged. The health inspector showed up at 5pm for a random inspection. Somehow we were ready in time for the first guests that night. Somehow t...he evening went quite well. Somehow the next 10 years went alright too. Thank you to all the staff who have come and gone over the years, and to all of our customers/ friends who have given us money in exchange for food and drinks and a cozy place to hang out. Thank you to everyone who believed in us and supported us and lent us money along the way, even when we didn’t really know what we were doing. These pictures (thanks Gabe!) are from our first year, back when we were way cooler and knew how to party. We’ll have to have some kinda real party once we’re done with the pandemic. Nasturtiums are still flowering outside my house and we have a week or two left of Quebec watermelons at the market.... it’s still summer, right? Watermelon, fermented habanadas and corn juice is the first course on our tasting menu for the Lawrence@larrys popup.
