Ok. This is getting ridiculous. Did you know if you have your animals processed at an approved government slaughter facility, then take it home to your freeze...r and then sell it to consumer, YOU HAVE TO BE APPROVED as a FOOD STORE! Following is an email sent to a producer from Northern Health. I have taken the name off. This at a time when consumers are trying to support their local producers. Another road block to purchasing local food. More expense downloaded to producers. Good afternoon xxxxxxx Thank you so much for talking with me over the phone. As per our conversation, I have concluded the following points: Your animals have been slaughtered, cut and wrapped by Xxxxxxxx that is a Class A slaughterhouse; Meats have been kept in the freezers on your property before selling to the public. I also have some questions, please kindly get back to me by email before next Friday: 1. Could you provide some documents that can prove animals are handled by Xxxxxxxx, such as receipts? 2. How do you transport raw meat from Xxxxxxx to your ranch with maintaining the temperature less than -4c? 3. How do you keep raw meat sold to the public separated from the food used by you and your family? 4. In addition to selling raw meat, do you process meat or other food and sell them to the public or do you plan to do that in the future? 5. Could you describe the drinking water system you are using, including water source and treatments? (If the water system you are using is not approved/inspected by Northern Health, we will provide free biological water test at the initial inspection or continue to do that in the future depending on the situation of your water system) If the operations are limited in storing and selling raw meat slaughtered, cut and wrapped by Xxxxxx , the premises will be considered as a food store which requires approval from Northern Health. To help you with the process, I have attached the following documents in this email: 1. Application form 2. Floor plan example ( a general schematic that sketch out the layout of different components of the premises) 3. Food safety plan guidelines and template ( your food safety plan can be very simple if you only sell raw meat, the steps could be receiving, transportation and storage) 4. Sanitation plan template (some sections in the template are not applicable to your business, please ignore those and fill up what is applicable) To apply for health approval, the following documents will be required: 1. Completed application form 2. Floor plan 3. Food safety plan 4. Sanitation plan Once the application package is received, I will review it. It will be either accepted or sent back for revision. After review of these documents, an initial inspection will be completed at the premises prior to the start of operations. If found to be satisfactory, approval may be granted. --

Well our lambing season officially started this evening when these twin boys made an appearance in -20 weather. Half froze by the time we found them but we brought them in and got them toasty warm to go back out to momma. Fingers crossed she takes them back. I forgot how stressed out and worried I get during lambing and calving. I don't think I worried this much with my own babies. Lol. Welcome to the world Cole and Noah.
