WELCOME BACK! A MEMO FROM LCSD: January 3, 2021 "Dear Parents, We hope that the holiday break was a restful time filled with the blessings of Christmas joy. We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to school tomorrow morning. ... We begin 2021 with hope and are thankful for your support this school year. We ask that you continue to ensure that we all carefully monitor for cold like symptoms every day. We are grateful to you as parents for minimizing cases in our schools by keeping children home when they have been sick. We also appreciate the support of our transportation system and the enhanced Public Health orders for masking in our schools. Many school jurisdictions in Alberta and Saskatchewan will be taking another week before moving to in class learning. This is due to concerns about how visiting over Christmas may impact COVID-19 cases in the coming weeks. Though we have not yet seen evidence of this locally, we want to ensure that we have a successful January. Therefore, we would ask for your continued support as we return to school. Specifically, if there is a member of your household who is being tested for COVID-19 or is awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test, we would ask that children be kept home. We believe that this additional precaution will support a return to school with minimal disruption to classes. The new year presents hope that all our efforts to care for one another will carry us beyond this pandemic together. We look forward to seeing your children again and welcoming them back to school tomorrow. " -Director of Education, Nigel McCarthy

"Dear Friends at Lloydminster Catholic School Division, I pray you are keeping and staying well, during this unprecedented and unsettled time. COVID-19 has challenged each of us in so many different ways, personally and professionally. As a former teacher myself, and as someone married to a teacher, I know how disruptive the virus has been to schools and how creative and remarkable staff have been at stepping up to meet this moment. You have been an inspiration!... As you know, the pandemic has also placed an especially crushing burden upon the most vulnerable amongst us. Over the past 30 years, the support of our friends in the various Catholic school districts and divisions throughout the Archdiocese of Edmonton has been exceptional! Your partnership with Catholic Social Services & Sign of Hope has lifted thousands of Albertans out of dire circumstances, and in countless cases, literally saved their lives. So, on a very personal note, I want to extend my sincere and heartfelt gratitude to you for helping us help those who cannot help themselves. Today, in the turmoil of 2020, the need continues...now more than ever before. And, we need you. Your financial support is required to help Catholic Social Services continue to provide: * Shelters for mothers and children fleeing domestic violence * Safe refuge for exploited youth * Pre and post-natal services for women experiencing a crisis pregnancy alone and afraid * Programs to help refugees escaping war-torn lands adjust to life in Canada * Intervention services for seniors being abused or neglected * Mental health counselling to those who have no financial means * Support to keep the recently-housed off the streets, and so much more In so many instances, when people in our communities are in crisis and have nowhere else to turn, they turn to Catholic Social Services. We cannot do this work alone, many of our programs receive no government funding and are fully reliant on donor support. Many of your colleagues donate monthly to Sign of Hope through payroll deduction. If this is an option available to you, please consider joining them. A donation of $5, $25, or $50 per month makes a massive difference. Or, if you would prefer to donate directly to Sign of Hope monthly, or as a one-time donation, you can visit: signofhope.ab.ca In the COVID-era we all may be in the same storm, but we are not all in the same boat. My hope is that those who are in more steady ships will reach out to help those who are barely treading water. Thank you for your generosity. Blessings always, Dr. Troy Davies CEO, Catholic Social Services & Sign of Hope"

Any staff who would have been in contact with this student have been notified and will isolate if advised by Public Health. "Hello LCSD family, I just wanted to reach out to you all and introduce myself. I am a Constable with the Lloydminster RCMP and currently have the honour of being assigned to your Schools as your Resource Officer. When I am not working I love spending time with my two busy boys, husband and my dog Maggie. I enjoy the Alberta winters and playing in the snow, I also enjoy running and just being outdoors. For the past two months I have been busy navigating my new community of L...loydminster, learning lots of new names and meeting so many new friendly faces. I can usually be found around Holy Rosary High school in my little office or travelling around in my the fully marked RCMP mini-van. Please stop by and say Hi! I also wanted to reach out to all the students and families of LCSD who are not around the halls of the schools these days and are navigating virtual learning. I just wanted to open up your lines of communication with me and if there is anything you may need from me I can be reached at [email protected]. With COVID limiting our in person activities I just encourage people to take time away from your screens when you can and get outside. A little Nature goes a long way when it comes it your overall well-being Take care and stay healthy." Cst. Melanie Flynn
