Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2020. We stand with survivors of abuse. Violence can take many forms, and intersect with other forms of oppression. LEAF hopes to continue to amplify the voices and stories of all women, but this is a issue all of us should be concerned about. With COVID-19 continuing, domestic violence and other forms of violence against women and girls has increased. Today and every other day, we all have a duty to address violence against women and help anyway we can.
LEAF signed onto this open letter urging ministers to take action on sexual violence faced by Indigenous women and girls with disabilities. Read more in the link below:
On Thursday November 5th at 6:00pm EST, The Black Law Students' Association of the University of Ottawa is partnering with the Greenberg Chair and University of Ottawa Faculty of Law (Common Law) to proudly present BLACK BODIES AND ANTI-BLACK RACISM with Dr. Charmaine Nelson, Dr. Rachel Zellars, and Dr. Hadiya Roderique. This panel event will be centered around anti-Black racism and current events. We will touch on systemic racism and slavery in Canada, how we navigate variou...s fields of work as a Black people, and how people can engage in dismantling anti-Black racism in and out of the workplace.
