As always, any students not feeling well or who have to isolate themselves will continue to join their class via the online classroom Leap@Home. . Stay well and Purell! . A few friendly reminders:... + Masks must be worn at all times by all + Our lobby remains closed - only registered students and staff are permitted inside. Our staff helps little ones come in and out of class comfortably and confidently to their waiting parent/guardian. All the windows around our lobby and entrances are coming in very handy! + All studio rooms are cleaned and sanitized with Health Canada approved (and kid-safe!) botanical products that are sprayed in the air and on surfaces with a product-specific fogger, with 15 minutes of dwell time between classes! + Our wonderful faculty and staff not only keep the studio spotless and effectively managed with the highest standards of safety - they create a compassionate and fun learning environment that provides confidence and comfort to learn and engage! . . . Continuing our Benefits of Dance series, today we talk about Dance training for youth ages 10-13. . At this age, Leap Studios' unique student-centered Dance Program challenges youth in both movement discipline and musicality with *age-appropriate* physical literacy and artistic concepts. The complexity of movement is enhanced and athleticism is exercised to a greater level. This improves heart and lung function, muscular strength and development, and more a...dvanced body coordination. Movement provides energy for the brain, strengthening and bonding the synapses. Think of physical movement as nutrients for a healthy brain. Children need movement and sensory experiences. Movement provides for overall brain development, and Dance masterfully fuses body movement with creative expression. . There are also benefits that carry beyond the studio and into the other parts of youth development in their social world. In a classroom setting, dancers are working in groups, improving their social and team-building skills. This is important to promote healthy communication styles and build lifelong friendships! . Our next session starts on April 6, and registration is now open online for that Term 4 of our season. It's never too late to start or rejoin Dance training. March 15. . On this day one year ago, we received the notice to stay home. And we did - each time we needed to - in order to take care of our community. Two of our core values are Community and Safety, so it was never a question of how and why we do the right thing. . Last year, March 15 was on a Sunday. We had our tiny tots in for class during the day, and then many competition rehearsals throughout the afternoon, until 4 pm. That was the ...last day we were all in the studio together, the way we were. . So today, March 15 on a Monday, and it's the first day of our new schedule since November that welcomes all Leap dancers back to in-studio classes....no more revolving weeks in/weeks out for any classes or teams. It meant a bit more renovation work, a lot of wonderful cooperation from classes that had to move to new days and new times, and playing Jenga with the schedule again. But make no mistake - it is all worth it so that every dancer gets to come into the studio under these current modifications, for every class, every week. (When they're well, of course!). Thank you to all the students and families who have adapted to a new schedule in order for this to happen! . That's what another year of looking out for one another does - it makes it easier to change when the solutions fit the goal. Leap Studios is thrilled to introduce this new class and session for children ages 3-5, developed in collaboration with elite athletic swimming, track, and gymnastics coach Dr. Monika Schloder. who developed the longest standing scientific study on the safe and successful components of early childhood physi...cal literacy. . Early childhood is the sensitive learning period when skills such as running, throwing, catching, hitting, kicking in addition to levels of strength, speed, and flexibility are learned and help physical literacy be achieved in adulthood. That's right: skill-building starts at an early age in order to build brain plasticity and neural networks for future benefit! . In this DANCE-focused format, we will work with music and imaginative themes to develop movement experiences that form spatial and body awareness that's appropriate for this age! The skills learned will help children in everything they do - the most important part right now is to have fun, see other children, and be in a safe environment for active learning! . Children need to have physical movement to grow and develop muscles and help the surrounding tissue strengthen so they can gain better control of their bodies. . This is also called Fundamental Movement Skills. It is the foundation and structure of being physically active, just like when a child is learning to read and write there are basic structures to make this happen. Through ages 3-5, children who take dance learn movement beyond their everyday mobility. Dance movement helps muscle development and coordination, teaching children to better understand how their bodies work and the miraculous things they can do! . Pairing movement with music provides young children the opportunity to learn the basics of musicality and rhythm. Dance is a wonderful hybrid of both exercise and art, promoting a healthy lifestyle alon...g with creativity at an early age. . Dancing in group settings also allows young children to learn proper classroom etiquette, and learning alongside other children develops team-building and social skills. . Dance is carefully designed to not only allow students to grow movement skills gradually and effectively, but assist in the development of listening, communicating, and retaining information in an age and developmentally appropriate way that is fun and engaging! . This is a showcase term (we have two per season), so it includes a performance for parents and special guests via Livestream. The showcase event format is to be determined, based on what is safely allowable in our area in mid-June.
