Have you heard of Fat Bear Week? Each fall, the public votes in a bracket-style tournament to crown the fattest bear at Katmai National Park. Vote here: https://explore.org/fat-bear-week These Alaska brown bears are fattening up on salmon in preparation for hibernation. While the bears elsewhere in North American may not be as fat, they are still desperately gorging themselves on food like berries, roots, and pine nuts at this time of year. This means they are distracted and it's easier for people to surprise them. #RespectWildlife Give bears and other animals lots of space so they can maintain their natural behaviour at this time of year as they prep for winter. Hike in groups and talk or sing to avoid surprising a bear.
Happy first day of fall!
