Our Executive Director has worked in Guatemala since 1987. He's viewed and passed "El Volcan de Fuego" many times while working on community projects there. Our hearts go out to all the Guatemalan's that have been affected by this tragedy. If you want to support a really great organization in Guatemala, look up vineinternational.org #vineinternational or you can send a donation to ,https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/9421 and we'll make sure we send it to Vine to provide... medical supplies, wheelchairs and other supports to the people affected by the eruption. They're a solid charity that's been working in Guatemala since 1994. Our prayers go out to Guatemala.

How do you decide where to donate your hard earned cash? #charityintellegence is the place to start..... "They advise donors on where their funds are needed most and which aid organization will do the best work". "Some of that information is already on its website. For example, CI is recommending #VirginUnite for British Virgin Island recovery, #SamaritansPurseCanada and #GlobalMedic for St. Maarten and Barbuda, and #OxfamCanada in Cuba. They base their recommendations on f...our criteria: The number of people affected: deaths, injuries, homeless. Economics of resilience: GDP per capita, estimated economic cost. Disaster preparedness: preparation time, infrastructure (building codes, breakwaters). Funding need for Canadian donations: does the area affected need outside humanitarian support that Canadian charities can provide?"

An image doesn't make you use all your senses. Extreme poverty has a bad odor, and the sounds may sometimes be disturbing too, depending on where the impoverished live. If they live in the cities, there can be sounds of gun shots, heavy trucks, the smell of burning diesel fuel, dusty air, extreme heat and humidity, stray dogs or animals roaming the streets, the smell of open sewers and urine. However, within their poverty, many can still project a genuine beautiful smile. Poverty is a blemish to all that is progressive, modern and humane.
