"The scariest moment is always just before you start. After that, things can only get better." We all have our own version of how this past year has affected us. For me, 2020 was about facing my mental health head on, it included a crash, diagnosis, and a ton of work. I've always been someone who has a inner voice "I don't know what to do". This was definitely part of my therapy. Life shows up for me as always been at the bottom step. That there is always going to be work ah...ead. It will likely be hard, even suck. So I stand there and wonder... should I bother? The answer is yes, because I matter. And there is still the paralyzing question... what is the first step? So here is what a year of therapy, recovery and healing has allowed me to discover. It doesn't matter what the first step is. It just matters that I take one. If you're like me the first thought may be what if I try to take step 3 as step 1? The answer is take another step. If you're like me the first thought may be what if I fail? The answer is take another step. If you're like me the first thought may be what if the step is wrong? The answer is take another step. And in all its moods, I see myself Martin Buxbaum This weekend our students taught their Vinyasa flows and this quote was shared and I knew in that moment it was one to share with all of you. ... The practice of vinyasa is lead by the breath, and is an opportunity to lean into the water element that teaches us to allow our emotions to surface, to be felt, and to be released. Some days our emotions feel like a storm, some feel silent and peaceful and all the places in between. Conversation starter: why do so many people in the yoga community predominantly share images of ripped bodies, with zen looking faces, doing power poses in a perfect space? How many times have you see an inversion on the beach, the glimmer of sun rays, the splash of the waves. Yes, as a yogi the more you practice the more strength your body has, and yes those moments are possible.... The question is are they the point? Yoga is a lifestyle that has plenty to teach us, including how to cope with suffering, uncertainty, emotions, thoughts, the stories within the mind, and so much more. Including how to release pain, inflammation and suffering from the physical body, mental body, and emotional body. So that we can connect with our wisdom body and blissful self. Instead of focusing on 6 pack bodies, how about we draw our attention to a 6 pack mind the inner strength and resilience, the peace of mind, that yoga truly offers us a path to discover and uncover within.
