To those who came out tonight just before 9pm to a dark house, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize it had turned off. Technical difficulties

Hi Everyone, just a reminder that yesterday was the last day to submit letters to Santa and get a response. The mailbox will remain outside for any child that wants to mail their letters however there will not be time to get a response. One thing that I forgot to post earlier is that we are collecting donations all month for the West Island Citizen Advocacy (WICA). They are an amazing organization that provides support for so many within our community. We partner with them each year for a special fundraiser night of fun for the community but for obvious reasons, this year it was not going to work. Donations can be left in the mailbox at any time. https://volunteerwica.com

I know it’s taken a while but we’ve finally narrowed down the official play list for 2020! Actually, there will be 2 The first couple weekends has been far busier than in previous years so we will be running the standard playlist but as traffic picks up, we will switch to a shorter list and likely remove our outdoor radio. I would a...lso like to remind everyone to please remember this is a residential street. Please keep your volume at a reasonable level and do not block our neighbors driveways. For those who are new, our road is not a dead end so there is no need to turn around to leave. You can get out on either end of the block. Welcome to our family Light show, Lights On Boischatel. Each holiday season we put on a Christmas Light display with both computerized and traditional lights synchronized to music. We run the show every night in December starting at 6pm. We try and pick songs that are upbeat and fun to keep everyone entertained. I left Baby Shark on the playlist this year because kids seem to love it, sorry parents . There are a couple unusual songs like the country song "The Gitup" and an ...EDM song. Not our usual type of show music but I had fun making them so I left it on for now. I'm still working on the final playlist and I will post it below once complete. We broadcast the music on 87.9 FM so you can enjoy the show from your car. Please be mindful of our neighbours and keep the volume at a reasonable level. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, I will not be able to hand out candy canes or hats to the little ones this year. It's one of my favourite parts of the season but I want to be sure everyone stays safe. If the traffic picks up we will be removing the outdoor radio to try and keep people in their cars. I realize that a lot of families like to get out and watch the show but I don't want to cause any conflicts or stress to the neighbourhood. We have a mailbox outside for Kids to send their letters to Santa! We will respond to each letter we receive up to Dec 10th. Please include your child's Name, Age and Address so we can send a letter back.

A new Frozen addition for the 2020 lineup. A few glitches at the start and a couple things to work on tonight but we’re back up and running for the season.

Every year around this time things start to get exciting as we pull out the decorations, start repairing older items and build some of the new additions for the upcoming season. This year has certainly thrown us it’s fair share of curve balls in ways I doubt anyone could have predicted. We now move around differently, shop differently and possibly watch a Christmas light show differently? I don’t want to create anxiety for anyone who might come because of social distancing r...ules and I certainly don’t want to be the mask police. With that in mind, I’m now worried how the upcoming season might play out. Should I still do a show this year? Should we still do the Santa’s mailbox? Will anyone want to open the letters we send back? Maybe shorten the show to only a couple songs and limit the time people are outside to avoid crowds? Will people even want to come this season?

Hi Everyone, I hope everyone is staying safe at home. As many of you know, I make maple syrup every year from the trees on my property. Around this time of the season I start to fall behind in boiling the sap so I offer it up to anyone that might like to try making maple syrup at home. ... If you’re stuck at home and would like to give it a try or maybe make some maple taffy, let me know. I should have about 10 gallons of sap to give away a day. That should make a mason jar of syrup. Making syrup is as simple as boiling the sap down until it turns to syrup. It’s about a 40:1 boil down ratio. A turkey fryer or bbq burner is ideal but for this low amount it can easily be done inside without issue. Conditions: you will need to supply your own food grade buckets and be ready to boil within a day or so or be able to keep it cold. Canadian tire or Home Depot 5G buckets are food grade and cost about $7 each. Cheese cloth or coffee filters will work fine to filter the syrup. Send me a pm if interested. Please only message me if you have everything you need so I don’t have to waste the sap waiting for you. You can open your own buckets and I will pour in the sap so nobody has to get to close

Since this will likely be our last post of the year I thought I’d make it kind of dull . Attached is a behind the scenes video to try and answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

And that’s a wrap! I just want to say thank you to all the wonderful families who took the time to come out and share the holiday season with us here in Pierrefonds. It truly means a lot to us. I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to WICA and all those that came out in the rain on our fundraiser evening. It wasn’t the best night to have an outdoor event but we always appreciate the support for such a wonderful group. Below are a few of my favorite pictures from this se...ason. Happy Holidays and all the best for 2020 from our family to yours.

For those of you that enjoy coming to see our lights each season I’d like to let you know about a couple other great displays that will be available for families this year. The first house is new and can be found in Terrasse-Vaudreuil. Not only will they be lighting their house but they will also be lighting a local park next door! You can find more details on their fb page linked below https://m.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=113876340037780&id=113858086706272... The second house is farther away and is in their second year. They have worked hard over the past year to double the amount of lights. https://m.facebook.com/lumiereplacebellevue/?__nodl&_rdr

New gingerbread house for the kids to play in this year. Almost ready to start decorating it!

Lights on Boischatel 09.02.2020

Hi everyone. I’m getting ready to finalize our community show for the coming season but still on the hunt for fun new things to add or repurpose into the yard. It doesn’t matter if they are working or not. If you happen to have any Christmas decorations you no longer need or want to sell... please keep us in mind.

Lights on Boischatel 29.01.2020

Hi everyone, I decided to tap my maple trees this year and make maple syrup. As it turns out, I’ve been able to make far more than I expected or need. If anyone would like to give it a try and make their own, I have lots of sap to give away (free). Could be a fun project if you have kids. I don’t think I can keep up with what I have and I’d prefer to give it away instead of dumping the sap. The process is fairly simple, just boil away the water until it turns to syrup. There are plenty of tutorials online and I can guide you if needed. ** one small edit: if you want the sap you will need to bring your own food grade bucket(s). Canadian tire 5 gallon buckets are $5 and a lid is $3 and are food grade and safe for transport. You also need to keep the sap cold if you won’t be boiling it right away.

Lights on Boischatel 09.01.2020

Just a reminder when packing everything away for spring that we take in lost and wayward Christmas decorations *working or not*. We don’t need any light strings but we can find a way to use almost everything else

Lights on Boischatel 31.12.2019

Here is a fun baby shark compilation put together by a member in my group. It features houses from around the world all synchronized to the same song. I didn’t want to do the song at first but it certainly made kids smile https://youtu.be/ov7pRIJ9kog

With our final night quickly approaching, I just wanted to thank everyone for coming out to see our show and for the wonderful comments and words of encouragement left on our page. Getting to meet so many local families outside watching the lights is truly one of the highlights of my year. One family even gave me their personal award for best Christmas decorations. I'm still smiling days later I’ve attached a few of my favorite pics of the season. This season we also tried ...to help raise funds and bring awareness to a couple wonderful local organizations (Angelman Syndrom foundation & WICA). We had our first ever special fundraiser event with the WICA group on Dec 15th. That was a fun night and I can't thank the WICA organization and volunteers enough for putting on such a fun event. Having Santa come for a visit made so many children happy and kept a permanent smile on my son's face for a few days. Throughout the month we collected approx $650. It may not be an enormous sum but I know both groups will be able to use the money in amazing ways. Once again, thank you to all who came out this year and I wish you all the best for the coming year.

Lights on Boischatel 23.12.2019

Lights on Boischatel 08.11.2019

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that came out to our launch night this past weekend. It was such a special experience to see so many families from the community come to watch our light show. I had hoped to properly greet everyone but we were still fixing issues right up until the last minute! I hope you enjoyed the show.

Lights on Boischatel 29.10.2019

Final night of testing. A few issues to address but looking forward to tomorrow night!

People often ask how I make my decorations so I thought I would show a little behind the scenes on making my new 3D printed snowflakes. These will be mounted on the trees beside our house to replace all the lights the squirrels ate last year.

It’s once again that time of year to start getting ready for the coming season. Lights on Boischatel 16.07.2019

I know it’s hard to think of Christmas time but I have to start choreographing my show. Are there any songs you would like to see this year? Feel free to suggest any songs you like, Christmas related or not!

Lights on Boischatel 10.07.2019

New addition for this year. It’s a 3 1/2’ tall stocking with a singing face and a matrix on top to show the radio station.

Lights on Boischatel 06.07.2019

I know it's well past Christmas but I thought I would share this one last video. This year our group put out a challenge to all lighting enthusiasts around the world to build a sequence to Justin Timberlake's "can't stop the feeling". In the end, we had submissions from over 70 different shows from Australia, canada , Europe and the United States. We even had 2 from Quebec (mine is at 4:45). Hope you enjoy! https://youtu.be/yXQ8FrASIq0

Lights on Boischatel 19.06.2019

As another year comes to a close, it's time to start planning the long task of taking down the decorations. With the extreme cold upon us and a narrowed snow covered street, we will be running our last show this Friday, Dec 29th, until 9:30 pm. I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to come out and see our lights and for all the wonderful words of encouragement and posts shared on our page. I cannot express how much I enjoyed watching the kids run around and dance ...and having the chance to meet so many of you. It was truly a highlight of my year! I even asked my wife to frame a hand written note we received as a Christmas present to hang in my workshop :) I wish you all the best for the coming year and hopefully we can do it all over again next year. Below is a link to our full 2017 show on YouTube. Happy Holidays from our family to yours Robert

Lights on Boischatel 31.05.2019

Just a quick update for the next couple of nights. The show will be up and running Dec 25/26 with regular hours. I will be out a lot less with candy canes and directing cars so that I can enjoy the time with my own family. Please be respectful of each other and my neighbors. These are the wonderful people that have been putting up with me for the past month! I wish you all a Merry Christmas and all the best for the holiday season!

Looks like one of our young guests lost a friend tonight . I will leave him out front overnight in case the owner returns and then give him a cozy spot in the mailbox for a few days.

Lights on Boischatel 06.05.2019

Due to the snow and heavy traffic tonight I doubt I will be able to dig out in time to run the show today. I apologize to anyone planning to come today.
