Denial and silence are a very big component of alcoholism. The drinker denies there is a problem, the family denies there is a problem and the children are taught to deny there is a problem. As a result, CHILDREN HAVE NO VOICE. They learn to not trust because they sense something is wrong but are told nothing is wrong. They learn not to feel anything because they are told that everything is fine and to not talk about how they are feeling. For children, this results in a ve...ry distorted and stressful view of the world which ultimately affects every aspect of their lives.
