For the cichlid lover! Cichlids of Africa Volume 2: Haplochromines Greg Steeves, Anton Lamboj & Hans van Heusden Format: Softcover, 134 pages... Publisher: Granda, 2016 ISBN: 3200046245 $41.00 US (Includes Shipping to Canada or the U.S.) The great continent of Africa contains an amazing assemblage of cichlid fishes known as haplochromines. As we continue to explore some of the lesser known waterways, beautiful creatures are being discovered. Additionally, as recent travels have shown, the great lakes are also full of aquatic animals that are yet to be described. As man continues to pillage his environment, it would seem that the fate for many of these fishes is bleak. In many cases we are in a race against time to discover fish before man destroys their very environment and eventual existence. Here we bring together field notes with captive rearing techniques. We are well aware that many cichlids have become extinct in their native waters and populations exist only in captivity; in the hands of both professional and amateur aquarists. It is a great tragedy that this trend will only continue. As man puts more and more pressure on wild habitats, we will continue to lose species at an alarming rate. Many species will be gone before we are even aware of their existence. This second volume in the series tries to find a comfortable medium of wild Haplochromine species not common to the aquarist, and haplochromine cichlids in the hobby, with notes on husbandry. As time wears on the aquarist will play an increasingly important role in species survival. Whether being displayed in a public institution or in the hobbyists home aquarium, species will rely on a captive environment for their very survival. This book brings information together with species photography designed to assist with identification. It is a hard thought to fathom when you consider that this generation may be the last to see many of these beautiful fish alive.

The Mermaids by Robert Edric Format: Hardcover, 86 pages Publisher: PS Publishing, January, 2007 ISBN: 1905834853... *THIS EDITION IS LIMITED TO 300 NUMBERED HARDCOVER COPIES SIGNED BY ROBERT EDRIC AND NICHOLAS ROYLE* **ONLY ONE COPY IN STOCK AND IT IS #222 OF 300** Introduction by Nicholas Royle. An isolated, struggling fishing village, inward-looking and increasingly dependent on the outside world for its survival. And then at dawn, one early-summer morning, the fifteen-year-old Sarah Carr witnesses a group of mermaids, and immediately that small, suspicious world is divided between those of its inhabitants desperate to regard this sighting as their salvation, as something to be advertised and exploited; and those who understand only too well the ridicule, pity and contempt this might equally swiftly bring down upon them. All now depends on somehow verifying what Sarah Carr says she saw, and over the course of those few overheated days, the whole world appears in turmoil - a place of scarcely-believable wonders and possibilities; a place of squandered opportunities, and of tawdry and regrettable compromises. And for those few tumultuous, alarming days a natural balance is irretrievably lost, and the whole village, with the girl immovable and unflinching at its centre, struggles to regain that balance and to ensure that that which might secure and safeguard its future - the sighting of the mythical creatures themselves - does not now, ultimately lead to its destruction from within.

A Sea Without Fish David L. Meyer, Richard Arnold Davis & Steven M. Holland The region around Cincinnati, Ohio, is known throughout the world for the abundant and beautiful fossils found in limestones and shales that were deposited as sediments on the sea floor during the Ordovician Period, about 450 million years agosome 250 million years before the dinosaurs lived. In Ordovician time, the shallow sea that covered much of what is now the North American continent teemed with... marine life. The Cincinnati area has yielded some of the world's most abundant and best-preserved fossils of invertebrate animals such as trilobites, bryozoans, brachiopods, molluscs, echinoderms, and graptolites. So famous are the Ordovician fossils and rocks of the Cincinnati region that geologists use the term "Cincinnatian" for strata of the same age all over North America. This book synthesizes more than 150 years of research on this fossil treasure-trove, describing and illustrating the fossils, the life habits of the animals represented, their communities, and living relatives, as well as the nature of the rock strata in which they are found and the environmental conditions of the ancient sea. With a chapter by Steven M. Holland David L. Meyer is Professor of Geology at the University of Cincinnati. He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. Richard Arnold Davis is Professor of Biology and Geology at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati. He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. Steven M. Almost anyone who has read or written Science Fiction or fantasy has been inspired by the work of Michael Moorcock. His literary flair and grand sense of adventure have been evident since his controversial first novel Behold the Man, through the stories and novels featuring his most famous character, Elric of Melniboné, to his fantasy masterpiece, Gloriana, winner of both the Campbell Memorial and World Fantasy, awards for best novel. Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, and Michael Chab...on all cite Moorcock as a major influence; as editor of New Worlds magazine, he helped launch the careers of many of his contemporaries, including Harlan Ellison, Philip K. Dick, and J. G. Ballard. Tor Books now proudly presents Moorcock's first independent novel in nine years, a tale both fantastical and autobiographical, a celebration of London and what it meant to be young there in the years after World War II. The Whispering Swarm is the first in a trilogy that will follow a young man named Michael as he simultaneously discovers himself and a secret realm hidden deep in the heart of London. http://www.lisaslairbookstore.com//12/The-Whispering-Swarm
