Struggling with getting out the door during these cold winter months? Tip of the Day Encourage your child to try the Flip-A-Roo! This is a such a simple way for children to feel accomplished when they’re getting their winter gear on. ... Here’s how it works: 1. Lay the jacket on the floor in front of your child. Face the hood of the jacket towards your child’s feet. 2. Have your child place their arms inside the sleeves of their jacket. 3. Now for the fun part! With their arms in the sleeves have your child flip their jacket all the way over their head, landing on their body! 4. Encourage your child to zip up their zipper once they have their jacket on! (Some may need a little help until they master this step.) 5.. Celebrate your child’s success for getting their jacket on all by themselves!!
D R A M A T I C P L A Y Unsure of where to start when staging an open ended dramatic play centre? The opportunities are literally endless, just think about provoking imaginative thought of the children you are working with. In this specific classroom we found this amazing antique phone from the thrift store, cleaned it up and set it on top of the wooden kitchen we already had in our classroom. We staged paper money we printed out (laminated so it’s easy to give a quick wipe... down throughout the day) and paired it with clip boards, paper and pencils. Then, watch as the magic of the children’s imagination takes over! #imaginationstation #learningthroughplay #loosepartsplay
Incorporating literacy for our young learners can be super simple. We collected these rocks from our backyard, washed them up, and used acrylic paint to add the letters. Once complete, give them a coat or two of sealant so that they can be washed after each use. This way staging a hands on literacy provocation is still doable, even during COVID. Remind the children to thoroughly wash their hands before starting to explore the letters. Wash the stones with soap and water at ...the end of the day! #learningthroughplay #reggioinspired #handsonlearning
Children discover their 5 senses when they have the opportunity to explore sensory play. Learning about the world through their different senses will help to build nerve connections in their brain and will benefit them for years to come. Make sure to think of safety first when preparing infant provocations. Care should taken to use large loose parts/natural materials and always supervise.
It isn't hard to embrace and celebrate the amazing, creative, magical beings children are! We are beginning our Self Discovery unit in all four of our classrooms this month. In this unit, we will take on a hands on approach to learning more about what makes us similar and unique as people. We will use our imaginations and loose parts to explore the creative skills we were born with. Children will be challenged to believe and discover how truly capable they are, gaining confidence in themselves each step of the way. Follow along with us in the upcoming weeks to watch as the children create connections and discover all the magic that lies within themselves!
