Did you know that only 16% of Canadian adults and 39% or children and youth currently meet physical activity guidelines and that COVID-19 has only made it worse? The estimated total health care costs of inactivity in Canada in 2009 was over $6.8 billion but the good news is that the solution is fun - movement is the medicine and physical activity benefits us all: https://ipolitics.ca//canadas-active-recovery-from-covid-/ Getting 10% of Canadians with suboptimal levels... of physical activity to exercise more would substantially reduce the incidence rates for major chronic conditions. GDP would increase by $7.5 billion by 2040 with more Canadians living longer and healthier lives by moving a bit more. Along with this boost there will be a $2.6 billion reduction in health care spending on hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. It's time to support and promote physical activity to help us stay healthy as this is essential to the recovery of our economy, our society, our culture and country! #InTheNewsThursday #movementequalshealth #ultraprivategym #BeOurGuest #exerciseismedicine #livewell #medicalfitness

Many of us spend a lot of time, energy and investment caring for our houses and vehicles . We love this quote because it reminds us to equally care for bodies as they are truly the place we live each day and the vehicle that gets us around this life. Our bodies are a worthy investment. Make sure that you are taking care of your body... #motivationmonday #movementequalshealth #ultraprivategym #BeOurGuest #exerciseismedicine #livewell #medicalfitness

Everyone undergoes stress at some point in their lives often daily. It can often make us feel anxious, irritable, and paralyzed. However, these feelings are not necessarily caused by stress itself. We commonly perceive stress as a negative thing that causes grief. Yet, it is our negative perception of stress that causes grief. If we perceive that we cannot cope with what lies before us, our stress can overwhelm us. If we adopt a positive mindset, stress can motivate us to d...o better, like during a presentation, or happily challenge the situation in front of us despite being under pressure, like during a big game. Managing our stress levels is a balance between changing our environment and changing our mindset. We can also manage our stress by adopting routines in our day-to-day lives that make us more stress resilient. Here are five tips: 1. Set Realistic goals and ensure that you are not putting too much pressure on yourself. 2. Focus your efforts on things you can control while accepting the things that you cannot. You can only control your response to situations out of your control. Focus If we positively move forward from uncontrollable situations we may not like, you will feel empowered rather than overwhelmed. 3. Ask for and accept help. Managing everything ourselves, or perhaps even for other people, can cause chronic stress. Start by delegating tasks that are not necessarily your obligation. Slow down and don’t let the burden of stress become your new normal. 4. Get moving. Exercise helps increase serotonin levels (a mood-regulating chemical in the brain) and lower cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone that is released in response to stress. Chronically high cortisol levels in the body are linked to weight gain, depression and anxiety, high blood pressure, and heart disease. 5. Get outside and breathe in some fresh air. If you take a moment to step away from the situation that is causing you stress, you can return to it with a new perspective. Fresh air = fresh perspective! It is impossible to avoid all stress. The next time you are feeling stressed, choose one of these strategies to try out. #bowmanville #movementequalshealth #beourguest #bowmanvillehealthcentre #clarington #exerciseismedicine #ultraprivategym #supervisedexercise #weeklyeducation

Exercise has been shown to increase our lifespan but most of us are not just concerned with living longer, we are concerned with living well during the years we are given. We want to feel good and live our lives on our terms to the very end. Regular exercise can add to our quality of life by allowing us to stay healthy and independent. Remember this week that you are adding , not just days to your life! #motivationmonday #movementequalshealth #ultraprivategym #BeOurGuest #exerciseismedicine #livewell #medicalfitness

LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic 29.09.2020

This week our LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic Team wanted to offer you some strategies on reducing your sedentary time. Technology has brought civilized societies many advantages, but it also has a downside. It has removed the physical demands from many of our day to day activities. It can be argued that we have made our lives too easy and our bodies were not designed to live such a sedentary life. Sedentary behaviours include sitting, lying down, driving a car, working at a desk,... surfing the internet, watching TV. These are behaviours in which the body is mostly stationary and for which we need to burn relatively little energy. The behaviours themselves are not necessarily bad but the fact that we engage in these behaviours for such extended periods of time is what poses the risk. Our bodies were designed for motion so when we don’t move for long periods it affects our anatomy and our physiology. There are two healthy habits that we can practice reducing sedentary behaviour: Sit less to minimize the amount of time that we spend motionless. Take the stairs whenever possible Pick the farthest parking spot from the door Walk to the corner store rather than driving Have walking dates with friends rather than lunch dates Break up long periods of sitting with activity breaks. Take a walk break on your coffee break Walk around or stand while you talk on the phone Walk over to speak to people in person rather than emailing or texting Get up and moving around during commercials when watching television Take frequent breaks and get out of the car on long road trips. Little changes can add up to throughout the day to reduce your overall sedentary time. #livewellexerciseclinic #movementequalshealth #bowmanville #exerciseismedicine #beourguest

The first three of LIVE WELL's encourage us to approach our lives with intention. We must be intentional when trying to reach any vision we set for ourselves. By setting time aside each week to plan for the week ahead, schedule our exercise sessions and ensure we have a plan to eat well we are intentional about how we want to live.... By following through with our plans, staying accountable to each other and reflecting back each week on our successes and failures, we create discipline one small step at a time. #motivationmonday #movementequalshealth #ultraprivategym #BeOurGuest #exerciseismedicine #livewell #medicalfitness
