Yesterday we hid three plastic Easter eggs contains tokens for free nights of camping: one at #collierydam, one at #hemerpark, and one here at #livingforestcampground. Not sure if they’ve been found yet... @ Nanaimo, British Columbia
Happy Easter! Hope the kids have had lots of chocolate! Now we have a treat for the whole family. We’ve hidden three eggs in green spaces around town. Check out our story for clues as to where to find them. Each one contains an egg that can be redeemed for a free night of camping at our park. If you find one, please leave a comment on this post. Good luck, and hope you’ve had a lovely weekend in the sunshine! . . .... #nanaimo #explorenanaimo #vancouverisland #explorevancouverisland #wonderfulvancouverisland #makeislandmemories #centralvanisle #bc #explorebc #campbc #campvancouverisland #vanisle #camping #rv #livingforestcampground
Happy Easter! White fawn lilies (aka Easter lilies) are blooming now around #centralvanisle. Like most of our wildflowers, these are fragile, so watch where you step and please leave them for all to enjoy.
Another sunny morning.
We ride year round, but the lengthening days make spring riding a real treat. . . . #gnarnaimo #nanaimomtb ... #nanaimo #explorenanaimo #vancouverisland #explorevancouverisland #wonderfulvancouverisland #makeislandmemories #centralvanisle #vanisle #campvancouverisland #livingforestcampground See more
It was a beautiful day for a walk along Nanaimo’s waterfront walkway today.
What is the big steel wheel on the hydro line road upstream from the campground? is likely our all time most asked question. Well, wonder no more! Just upstream from the Living Forest, the neighbouring property has an industrial history, having been a concrete plant, a pile driving/barge manufacturing plant, and a storage lot for a company that built docking structures. The big wheel was a remnant of a docking structure called a dolphin. If you look at many BC Ferries terminals, you’ll see them. Turned on their side, these wheels are the frame to hold concrete and timbers to help hold ferries in place at dock, while they load and unload vehicles. Check out our story for more photos!
Here’s hoping! We wish you all the best for 2021. Happy New Year!!!
We’re getting into the holiday spirit here at LFC! With no Ladysmith Light Up Parade this year, we’ve used the props from our float to make our office extra festive.
We found this little good luck charm on our centrepiece last night. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come for 2021!
We’re excited to give away two nights of camping to a lucky winner this Wednesday, November 25th at noon! Be sure to leave a comment with your favourite local business and camping buddy in our previous post. Good luck! (A big thank you to CutCoast: Vinyl Cutting and Custom Design for our beautiful new gift certificates!)
We had our first (brief) taste of winter today. No plowing required, and it turned to rain within a few hours. We’ve been left with classic wet coast slush.
We believe that small businesses are essential to a thriving community. Follow along in our story as we share twelve of our favourites this holiday season.
Red sky this morning. Sailors, you know what that means.
We’re constantly blowing leaves in the fall, but I managed to get a shot before this site was done. While our native forests don’t produce the stunning reds of more eastern parts of Canada, it’s still a beautiful time of year.
Our big maples are dropping their leaves as fall takes a firm hold on the Island.
California sea lions are here in the estuary, gorging on the spawning salmon. The gulls are more than happy to clean up the scraps!
We spotted this perfectly placed feather on a walk upstream from the campground. . . . #noticenature #getoutsideandexplore ... #nanaimo #explorenanaimo #vancouverisland #explorevancouverisland #wonderfulvancouverisland #makeislandmemories #centralvanisle #vanisle #campvancouverisland #livingforestcampground See more
It’s that time of year! Hope everyone enjoyed their extra hour of sleep!
Happy Halloween!
We got an RV supply delivery yesterday, including 144 four packs of RV TP. Any guesses as to what the tube coming off the front of the delivery truck might hold?
Lest we forget.
Hope this makes you smile on a Monday morning.
Good morning! It’s easier to be up for the sunrise this time of year.

We are thankful to share this beautiful island with some amazing creatures, including Western Toads. This video, made on Vancouver Island by a local videographer, has amazing footage of western toad tadpoles in their natural habitat. Thanks so much for sharing, @MaxwelHohn!
The fall harvest is in, and it’s spectacular! Get your Thanksgiving shopping done at one of our area’s two farmers markets. Island Roots Market is today (Wednesday) from 2-6pm at Beban Park. Cedar Farmers Market runs Sundays from 10am-2pm at Woodbank School.
It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful weekend. We hope you’re able to get outside and enjoy the autumn sunshine! Site 150, one of our full service oceanview sites on Garry Oak Ridge, is pictured.
Thank you Nanaimo, for voting us #1 campground in our beautiful harbour city! We are so very grateful for the support of our incredible community. The current evening view from our oceanside sites, versus our regular view. The smoke from the forest fires in the western US has made its way up Island and has us feeling grateful that smoke is all we’re dealing with here. Our neighbours to the south are in our thoughts!
