Certainly, it is never easier to #eatlocal than at this time of year - when the Ontario local harvest is at its peak! This salad definitely makes the cut - with chopped zucchini, tomatoes, green peppers and fennel bulb, microgreens, a drizzle of olive oil and some salt and pepper. As simple as it is satisfying, thanks to the beautiful vegetables from Mono's @ambraighfarm
For these next 2 weeks (June 22nd-July 5th), 20% of our Soup Girl online sales (www.localsoupgirl.ca/shop-online/) will be donated to the Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC), a charity dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. Each year, TWC admits approximately 5,000 wildlife patients in desperate need of help; and many of these during the spring months. TWC is doing its best to keep rescue, rehabilitation and veterinary services available during this COVID-19 pandemic. But as a charity run almost solely on donations, resources are stretched extra thin and they need help. https://www.torontowildlifecentre.com

The owner of one of our Hamilton retailers, James North General Store, makes a good point... many small, locally-owned stores also carry essential items. #supportlocal

The Celebration of Life that we held for my dad this past Thursday was such a beautiful event - with many people coming to pay tribute and show support - and photos displayed, music played and words spoken that captured my dad perfectly. The memorial card is shown here and includes some of Larry's "rules to live by". Thank you to everyone who has been reaching out with heartfelt messages over these past couple weeks - your efforts and words have helped and mean more than y...ou'll ever know. And I want to say thank you to my longtime best friend Stef @stefanietaya, who has been a such an unbelievable help and source of strength for me and my family these past couple weeks, and at a time when her heart is also hurting. I will forever be grateful. And lastly, because I am still grasping, I want to publically say a few more personal words about my dad. My dad was my rock. He made me feel so loved. He was often a voice of reason in this sometimes crazy and confusing life. I worry about how I am going to navigate my life going forward without him. But I like to think that there is enough of him within me - that there is enough of his love and wisdom that I've absorbed over the years - that it won't take much for me to know just what he would say or do. And that he lives on in my heart forever. I love you so much Dad. See more

It is with a lot of sadness that I share the news of my Dad's passing in the early hours of Friday, November 15th - just hours after celebrating his 71st birthday surrounded by family and some close friends. As many of you know, my dad had been battling cancer, courageously and stoically so, for the past three years. You might think I would have been prepared for his passing, but the truth is that I think I resisted the idea of losing my dad right until the very end. It is on...ly now that I have to begin to accept it. It is even harder than I thought it was going to be and I know I have many tough and bittersweet moments ahead. But I also know I have so much to be grateful for. For all the many times over the years that someone has said to me: "your dad is just the nicest man." For his intelligence, his quiet wisdom and his sharp sense of humour. For how he "got me" and all the times he said just the right thing and gave just the right advice. For how he somehow helped me to see my weaknesses as less severe and my quirks as things to be embraced. For how he set an example of how to be a kind, fair and decent person. For having been able to spend so much time with him these past five years as he helped me to build and grow my business Soup Girl. For how he was so encouraging and helped me to have faith in myself and my business sense. For how he was cared for in such a loving and dignified manner by his girls (my mom, myself and my two younger sisters) during his final couple months and for how he passed away peacefully in his home of 40 years. And finally, for how I feel so proud of the person my dad was. Thank you to so many people for the support and love you have shown to my dad and to our entire family this past while. It has meant so much to all of us. A Celebration of Life will be held next Thursday, November 28th, 4-7pm, at the Monora Park Pavilion, 500 Monora Park Road, just a couple minutes north of Orangeville.
Happy 71st birthday to my main man - a.k.a Dad/The Captain/Soup Dogg/LarBear/Stan the Man. You da best.
Souper Mom at VegFest Guelph - today until 5.pm at Riverside Park, Guelph.
My Aunty Karla (aka Souper Aunt for those that may have met her in recent years at the Soup Girl booth) was always there for me - whether that was helping with Soup Girl these past few years or just helping with life - sharing her warmth, wisdom, zest, humour and love. She passed away suddenly, yet peacefully, early last week. I will miss her incredibly and cherish her always. https://www.caledonenterprise.com//o/9590140-madsen-karla/
