Simar's mane, before and after. This 15 year old mare is not a fan of her mane being pulled, it's usually quite a challenge until Monica, the horse whisperer mane puller extraordinaire, comes to work with us at the LongRun barn over the winter. Monica hands down has the touch, Simar only notices what's going on once the job is done. Simar is also part of Exec's (Main Executive) harem. (She and Exec are bonded.) Simar is the other alpha in the group, she is strong willed, fi...ercely protective of her herd which she has her eyes on at all times. Thank you Steve Attard for donating her to us! Simar, like Westie, has found her forever home with us at the LongRun farm, she is not sponsored would you be interested in sponsoring her? If so please click on this link: https://longrunretirement.com/donate-now/

LongRun Graduate Horse Stormy (Stormy Pegasus) has found his forever home with Kylie, see their story below. After one meeting with Stormy in early October 2020, Kylie and I knew he was the absolute perfect horse for her! A gust had blown some leaves into the arena where we were watching him loose and, after a little jump, he turned and went right over to investigate. We recognized his sensible, curious personality and, felt sure we would suit him and vice-versa. Since Oc...t 13 he has become a V.I.P. at Rosehill. He has been ridden 3 times a week and has shown a huge willingness to learn, he is becoming a steady young pleasure horse. He is improving on being able to go straight (haha) and has learned some bending and circles. He hacks out quietly around the hay field and certainly appears to be settled and happy in his life with his Welsh pony friends. Future plans are simple. without pressure (as he is only 3 and still growing --a LOT), to improve his flatwork and maybe in the summer work on some poles and cavaletti to make him an all-round individual. Dan (Daring Dan) will soon be available for potential adopters! This strapping, 11 year old gelding is 16.3 hands, strong, athletic and a nice mover. His boyish teenage disposition requires a confident, experienced rider, yet with the right partnership Dan will shine in any discipline. His details: Daring Dan, by Domasca Dan, out of Dreams N’ Roses. He had 14 starts (14-0-1-2).... Image of Dan running in snow by James Gould.

This handsome older gentleman, a 2002 gelding by Bold Executive, has accumulated quite a harem in his later years, but we are concerned they might be gold diggers, as Main Executive banked quite a bit of money during his career, winning 10 races including multiple stakes, and banking $645,000. None of his ladies are quite so accomplished - although She Goes West, a 1998 mare by West by West did win 9 races and $126,000, Simar (2006 mare by Capetown) only broke her maiden an...d Extremeciano (2001 mare by Ciano Cat) was unplaced in 3 starts. Although Main Executive is extremely fortunate in finding a very loving and generous sponsor in Alyson Henry, these ladies of a certain age would also appreciate a sponsorship and a human of their own. If you are interested in helping care for these mares during their "golden years", please contact us for details. See more

Over the next few months we will be introducing you to the horses that have found their forever home with us. We hope their stories will move you as much as they do us and inspire you to donate to LongRun and/or sponsor one of these beautiful horses. To donate please click on our website above! Atasheen, pictured here, has been with us since early 2016. Due to an ankle injury he never became sound enough to be adopted and so joined our sanctuary herd. He is such a smart boy! ...Understanding his herd, he positions himself at the last feeding bucket, patiently waiting for the feed to arrive to him while the other members of his herd push one another down the fence from one feeding bucket to the other. His strategy always pays off! Shy boy, he says so much through his eyes He is partially sponsored by Michael Armstrong, co-author of The Legacy of Windfields Farm. Thank you Michael @michaelarmstrongauthor

Walking amongst the sanctuary herd while they are resting is a deeply calming experience. Always amazed at the open trust these majestic animals are so ready to offer. They accept our intrusion, they accept us as part of their herd; some will slowly follow us, nuzzle us to say hello or ask for a cuddle. Wishing you some horse cuddles today! #ottg #equine #gelding #thoroughbred #retiredracehorse
