The Analytical Sciences magazine marked Development of Human Hair Reference Material Supporting the Biomonitoring of Methylmercury as a Hot article in the May issue. Lumex Instruments' specialist in the mercury analysis took part in writing the artice. It describes the development of a certified reference material NIMD-01 for the analysis of mercury speciation in human hair. Measurements were made by collaborating laboratories using various methods. At Lumex Instruments, we s...uggest the direct determination of mercury in hair and other biological samples using mercury analyzer RA-915M with PYRO-915+ attachment (https://www.lumexinstruments.com//ato/ra-915m-pyro-915.php). This technique does not involve preconcentration on a gold trap and "cooling step", thereby eliminating errors of sample pre-treatment. Attending Pittcon 2019? Visit us at booth #1230 at 11:30 and 2:30 each day to participate in our live demonstrations of applications developed by Lumex Instruments: 1. Determination of mercury in hair using mercury analyzer RA-915M with Pyro-915+. Wonder how much mercury you have been exposed to? We can answer just by testing your hair. The instrument provides direct mercury determination at ppb level without pretreatment rather than homogenization and in under 2 minutes with...out the waiting period between the analyses. 2. Determination of caffeine, ascorbic acid, and preservatives in beverages using capillary electrophoresis system Capel-205. Bring your own beverage to sample, like juice, wine, water or coffee to determine the mass concentration of caffeine, ascorbic acid, and its salts, and preservatives (benzoic acid, sorbic acid, and their salts) in beverages. All this will be done in one run. The analysis time is just 10 minutes. 3. Demonstration of a high-speed real-time microchip-based PCR analysis. The high-speed real-time PCR on a microchip AriaDNA opens a new era for tests in the industries where PCR was not a common method before due to its complexity and high investment requirements which is not true anymore. Save the schedule to join us during the live demo at our booth 1230: https://www.lumexinstruments.com/news/198.php

Every day, we are amazed by what tasks our instruments solve. This time, Lumex Instruments Mercury Analyzer helps in research of the reasons of dinosaur mass extinction. The scientists from Princeton University use Mercury Analyzer RA-915F for geological research. One of the applications is to measure mercury in the sediments from 65 million years ago, during the time of the dinosaur mass extinction. These findings will be used to identify the climactic and environmental effe...cts of the volcanic eruptions. If mercury is found, this will support their hypothesis that the mass extinction occurred during rapid and massive volcanic eruptions that caused major global climate change, acid rain, and acidification of surface water leading to mass extinction. Mercury from the eruption was incorporated into sediments across the globe and is being measured by RA-915F to identify the climatic and environmental effects of the volcanic eruptions. IR method for control of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) content is successfully used in the laboratory of Mina Petroleum, one of the biggest fuel storages in Oman. Measurements are made according to EN 14078:2014 standard by a cutting-edge FTIR Fourier spectrometer InfraLUM FT-08 manufactured by Lumex Instruments. The tool was installed in December and has been successfully operating for the past three months. Lumex Instruments solution provides reliable control of FAME conte...nt starting from the lowest concentration level of 0.05 % (V/V). A simple and convenient module of quantitative analysis integrated into the software SpectraLUM allows getting the result of FAME content immediately in percentage by volume and without additional operations. Mina Petroleum controls FAME content several times a month, but previously samples for analysis were sent to the external laboratory that brought additional expenses for the company and made analysis time very long. The use of InfraLUM FT-08 allows getting the result in a couple of minutes and reduces expenses significantly. The control of FAME content in diesel fuel or domestic heating fuel provides the right fuel identification and is used for registration of possible FAME impact on engines and fuel systems. Lumex Instruments also provides solutions for IR-testing diesel fuel in accordance with other standards, for example ASTM D7371.
