Today’s video is the 7th in our child development series and our 2nd STEAM-based video. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) is a learning domain that allows opportunities for naturally curious children to learn and play. When you think of technology, you probably think of things like smartphones and computers. In the STEAM learning domain, technology is identified through simple machines like wheels and pulleys. Julia has prepared an engaging and informational technology-themed video for families. Learn how to build a wind-powered car using household materials, and be sure to watch all the way to the end where Julia reads Rattletrap Car by Phyllis Root #MacaulayCentre #EarlyON #STEAM #STEAMForKids #TechnologyLearning #STEM #STEMForKids

Fireworks painting is a craft that kids will genuinely have fun doing while boosting their fine motor development, imagination, and creativity skills. With this craft, kids are able to create all kinds of different fireworks by mixing colours and shapes. You can even add a small amount of glitter to the wet paint to finish off the ‘fireworks’ effect! #MacaulayCentre #CraftsForKids

This lava in a cup science experiment is fun, easy, and educational! Kids will love creating their very own dancing blobs of lava, while learning about weight and density. All you need is a few household supplies to supply your kids with hours of fun. How does it work? The science behind it is simple, the oil floats on top of the water because it is lighter than the water. Since the salt is heavier than oil, it sinks down into the water and takes some oil with it, but then the salt dissolves and back up goes the oil! #MacaulayCentre #ScienceForKids #ScienceExperiments

It’s a beautiful day outside! Why not go on a nature walk with your children? Let our Saturday #EarlyON video from Julia show you how. In this video, Julia reads Swirl by Swirl: Spirals in Nature by Joyce Sidman illustrated by Beth Krommes and then shows kids how to go on their very own nature treasure hunt by looking for plants, animals, shapes, textures, and more! Children will learn observation skills, and appreciation for the outdoor world. What will you find on your nature hunt? #MacaulayCentre #NatureAdventure #ForKids
