It's time for all of us to fight hate and intolerance. If you're interested in receiving a copy of the letter to CRA, in order to sign your name and show support, reach out to me.

At last night’s Regional Chair debate in Ajax, a question was asked about the need for more women’s shelters because existing shelters are full to overflowing. ... There is also a need for more social housing to allow women to leave shelters along with their children and pets and relocate in a safe place. It concerns me deeply that women are sometimes forced to stay in unsafe situations because of a lack of other options for them. I have personally, as a police officer, driven victims around trying to find a safe space for them. It is time to make all of Durham Region a safe space for women and children. Last year, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) issued a report ranking Oshawa at the bottom of 25 with the Oshawa metropolitan area (including Whitby and Clarington) ranked 24th among 25 cities that were ranked. Women’s personal security was a major issue in the rankings. Women on average also earn a great deal less than men. And even though women were more likely than men to have received their high school diplomas and women’s rates of college completion are higher than the national average, very few serve in public office (less than 1 in 4). This situation is completely unacceptable and needs to change. As your Regional Chair, I would meet with women activists and local women’s organizations to map out a strategy to change this situation throughout Durham Region. Ensuring the safety and security of women and equality will be a priority.

I will be creating a Facebook group for Ward 2 residents in the City of Oshawa, for use during this municipal election. It will be a platform for respectful discussion, debate and to connect with candidates running for various offices. Once created, I will share the group on my feed - please feel free to share the group on your feed, to solicit interest.

Friends & Neighbours: Four years ago, 2014, I ran in the municipal election to represent the citizens of Oshawa. The result was not what we had hoped for, but I remained positive about the future growth of our community, and for me as an individual. When we had lost the election back in 2014, I made a commitment to come back to it in 2018. ... I have spent the last four years growing, learning and experiencing many new things. I have had the opportunity to ponder my future, and take steps to be a more successful and innovative me. The last four years have seen tremendous change in my life - parenthood, marriage, home ownership, career changes, etc. I have also had the chance to think about my role in public service, and my past commitment to our community. With all of this being said, I want to take a moment and thank all of those who have reached out to me, and encouraged my participation in the upcoming municipal election. Unfortunately, I have decided that 2018 is not my year, and that I will not seek elected office this time around. Don't be entirely fooled - because of my late submission of election financials, I would need to jump through hoops and bounds in order to run. But this decision is greater than that - it is what is best for me, and more importantly, my family. HOWEVER, 2022 is four years away and, who knows, maybe you'll see me around then. Thanks everyone! -Mac

I think it's time for Ontario to have a new political party. The current group have let Ontarians down and there's no immediate hope or relief, as all have established leaders who are going nowhere, and agendas that are set in stone. Ontario was a Province of opportunity, and I think it's time to establish a new movement, in the form of a party, to carry us forward.
