Tax Season Is Right Around The Corner...... Did You Know...... that if you sold your principal residence in 2016 that you have to report it on your 2016 income tax return. This doesn’t mean that you will have to pay tax on the sale of your principal residence, but you do have to report it. If you have more than hectare (1.24 acres) of land associated with your principal residence you may have to pay a capital gain on the excess portion of land associated with your principal residence. Also, if a portion of your principal residence was used for rental or business purposes you will need to find out if you are required to pay tax on a portion of the capital gain. Hefty penalties may be assessed for those who neglect to report the sale of their principal residence. The longer you wait to report the sale, the higher the penalty may be!!!!
