We recently celebrated the feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Doctor of the Church, and spiritual genius. Her genius is particularly significant and relevant to the vast majority of Catholics who are laymen and laywomen. For centuries the large majority of the faithful believed that holiness was out of their reach; a special privilege for the ordained and religious. That heresy has been decisively refuted by the teachings of Vatican II and the Catechism, as well as by every Pop...e in recent memory. It goes without saying that the Church cannot continue its existence without priests to bring us Jesus (in the Eucharist) and forgive us our sins (through sacramental confession). But for the Church to thrive, rather than to merely maintain its existence on earth, we the laity must more fully respond to and embrace the call to holiness. The Church cannot thrive without saints. More specifically, it needs you and me to become the saints that God created and destined us to become. And in anticipation of this great need and destiny, over a hundred years ago God raised up a most remarkable young saint, who pioneered an entirely "new way of holiness". This new way was as radical as it was bold, especially because Thérèse's doctrine (the very reason she was named a Doctor of the Church) makes holiness accessible to the large majority of believers; the laity. In honour of Thérèse's feast day, we've prepared this special post. The Inspiration below contains one of the most hopeful messages you'll ever read. Thérèse gives us a penetrating insight into the heart of Jesus and a fitting response to what we find in His heart. We're also posting this 1st of 7 videos that present the unique genius of St Thérèse's teaching and the way of holiness she modelled for us all.
