. This past week has been so crazy! Lambing, planting the garden, 4H market lamb sale, achievement day preperations and our first weekend of farmers market. #exaustedmom . We have had 12 mature ewes lamb and 6 Yearling ewes and I think we have 30 babies on the ground. #notcompletlysure Our Yearling ewes have done a terrific job lambing with no assistance so far. .... . Just over here saving lives! . This is for sure the weather you dread when you are lambing on pasture. But so far no wind so that's good! We need this moisture so we will take it. . The weather looks like it may take a turn. Our flock can handle the snow, wind and rain but when it all comes all once it is hard on mommas and babies. I worry like crazy. So say a little prayer that we get one or the other not all of them at the same time. . So knowing that there is a possibility of it all at once we pulled out the mobile lambing jugs. They can be used just as shelters for the lambs or we can have a ewe and babies locked into them for a time of bondin...g and a chance to get out of the weather. These lambing jugs move along with the ladies as they rotate through the pasture. It gives us a little peace knowing that they can be out of the weather. . And it is a good thing we did that tonight, Kurt just did the evening check and someone is having babies so he coaxed her into the lambing jug so she can finish lambing. #thankgoodness . . Yesterday was full.... I brought the kids to thier Toastmasters class, did grocery shopping for my mom because Dad got to come home last night from the hospital (thank you all so much for your prayers) and we finished the day by sorting out the fats that are heading to butcher early this morning. Let's just say the cows were much easier to load then the pigs. Always learning over here. . Each time we ship we make time to say a little prayer for the animals that ...have been in our care. We pray for the next leg of thier journey and for each family that has purchased from us. May they bless your bellies and bodies as much as they have blessed our hearts here on the farm. . . It has been a struggle over here these days and I am so thankful for the farm and animals to keep us sane even though it is lots of work. #lovewhatyoudo . My Dad (who is 87 and very hard if hearing) has been in the hospital with a blood infection. It has been unbearably hard to not be able to see him, and make sure he is being cared for. .... Dad has been fighting us about moving the horses out to the farm for years. He lives in town but has a piece of land that he rents right close to him in to keep the horses on which has really been a blessing. It has allowed him to be with his horses every day and given him something to do once he retired. They are really his everything, so loved and pampered. . With dad sick and my mom still working and not able to do the chores that means they come out to the farm. My brother and I loaded up the hay and horses and brought the out here to be cared for. The hard part will be keeping dad from wanting to drive out daily to see them. . They are settled in and now the kids and I will be thier caretakers. . Naughty town is still happening over here. . Somehow I have managed to hold on to these four naughty girls all summer and fall. They come from some of our top ewes. (my favorites) . .... What I mean by naughty is they test our management system and the rule is if you test it you go! It doesn't take long for them to teach others to do the same. . We run all our animals with two lines of hot wire and that's it. Sooooo... today I set up a fence in the naughty pen to try one last time to train them to the hot wire. Thankfully the fence is at its all time hottest now that all the grass is dead and not laying over it. . We have been hibernating over here. Most of our days are being spent keeping animals comfortable, working on a home-school rhythm, and shoveling... . I think this is our 8th year shoveling snow off the sidewalks at our church. They have it down to a fine science now and if my memory serves me correctly I have been going of this beautiful little country church for almost 28 years. .... It all started with a sweet little lady who's children I had road the bus and played baseball with as a kid showed up to my home. (which was across the road from the country church) . She invited me to a Bible study at the church. I could have easily walked to the study but she insisted on picking me up each week. I think it is because then I would have no excuse not to come. #thanksbetty . It was there that my faith grew. I met some of the most amazing ladies, who have walked along side me in some of the most difficult times and in the joyful times. . Life's ebbs and flows most times will take you in different directions on different paths. But faith/friends are never far from your hearts and minds and can always be called upon for prayer. . This year has been hard on so many! And with today's announcements it feels like again we wait to fellowship together! . Don't forget to reach out to those friends and remind them they are loved.
