Canada to Spend $87 Million on Modernizing Immigration! Canada plans to spend $72.1 million to modernize the immigration application processing system in the next two years. In order to deliver on the recently projected increased immigration levels by 2023, along with the effects of COVID-19, the immigration system must be modernized to operate more quickly and effectively. To expand existing supports for the integration of new skilled workers, the government also plans to i...nvest $15 million in 2021-22 to the Foreign Credential Recognition Program. In-demand jobs are increasing throughout Canada, resulting in skilled workers without quality jobs, and quality jobs without skilled workers. Covid-19 Test Required for Air Travellers to Canada The Government of Canada has announced that as of January 7, 2021, people arriving in Canada by air will need to show a negative Covid-19 test to be able to enter the country. Effective January 7, 2021, all passengers five years of age or older arriving by air are required to have tested negative for Covid-19 before travelling to Canada. You must provide a negative molecular polymerase chain reaction test or PCR test, t...hat was taken within 72 hours (3 days) prior to your scheduled departure date to Canada. For those travellers with an approved negative Covid-19 PCR test, you will still need to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon your arrival in Canada and to demonstrate that you have a quarantine plan. If you are not able to provide a negative Covid-19 test, you may need to reschedule your departure plans. If no test facility was available to you prior to your departure, you may still be allowed to board your flight at the discretion of the airline. International Students DLI list Update: Maple Immigration Services would like to send out some information regarding COVID-19 and Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs). On October 20, 2020, some DLIs are now able to reopen to international students who aren’t currently in Canada and who:... have, or have been approved for, a study permit; or are travelling to Canada for a non-discretionary or non-optional purpose. As of November 17, 2020, the DLI list has been updated and more schools with COVID-19 readiness plans have been added. To be able to reopen to international students who aren’t currently in Canada, DLIs must have a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by their province or territory that: protects the health and safety of all students and the community describes how they will manage the mandatory 14-day quarantine period for international students provides information and support to international students about how they can get the items they need for quarantine, like food and medications health insurance remaining healthy while in Canada If your DLI isn’t on the approved list, you cannot travel to Canada to study at this time. Changes to Travel Restrictions for International Students The Government of Canada has announced new changes to travel restrictions for international students to begin their studies in Canada. Beginning October 20, 2020, international students who have a valid study permit to study at a designated learning institution (DLI) with an approved and established Covid-19 readiness plan, will be able to enter Canada to study. ... This change affects all international students no matter where they are travelling from or when their study permit was approved. Immediate family members may also be able to accompany an international student as long as their reason for travelling is non-optional or non-discretionary. International students and their accompanying immediate family members will still be subject to all current public health measures including a mandatory quarantine upon arriving in Canada.
