I'm sad because my 1st Paint It Forward group of Budding Artists is officially done - 4 classes completed where we developed an appreciation for Acrylic Painting in the Style of Lawren Harris, learned about brushes, colour theory, wet on wet blending, brush mixing, palette knife mixing... and oh so much more! Kits were generously donated and artists were encouraged to Paint it Forward at the end of the 4 weeks .... those new funds will go towards the purchase of materials f...or the next group. Learn from the comfort of you own home (via zoom). My teaching time was donated as my give back to my Bowen Community during these trying covid times... A wonderful group of artists... In the Bay - Bowen Island, BC has many wonderful beaches. Deep Bay is in the heart of Snug Cove. Often I will take photos and then head back to my studio to paint. Sometimes I play with the image 1st. Deep Bay was my reference but I flipped the photo and lowered to North Shore Mountains.... If you are unfamiliar with his art .. do look him up! His comment when he was teaching was always add something hidden in the art to be investigated and talked about... something related. ... Summer or Fall? I have noticed (when selling art in galleries) and truly believe that when someone purchases art there is an emotional process they go thru that will determine if they purchase a painting or not. 1st - colors in the art. 2nd - does it "pull" at their heart strings and resonate with them. 3rd - does it fit in with their current home decor.... 4th - Price. So many artists agonize over price but they forget to paint with passion and colors that appeal. I painted this original piece titled "Grandmas Path" (my son took the original photo when he was 11). I painted it true to colors ... GREEN! Then I took a print and repainted over top in Fall colors... guess which one sold first.... yup... color is important when painting ...
