Overcast damp morning with take of rain, temp 7C, wind SE 12 km/h, some boats out. Did you know, The Department of Fisheries in Canada has transferred ownership of 2 fishing wharfs to Nova Scotia first Nations. Tickle wharf in Canso was transferred this spring for $1.00 to the assembly of Nova Scotia Mi'Kaw Chiefs. $346.00 of repairs was done to this wharf in 2020 and the fishermen who use it have 5 years to find a new place to berth. the Canada Creek Wharf on the Bay of Fund...y in King's County was given to the Annapolis First Nations for $1.00 after repairs of $1.9 million were done in 2019. Minister of Fisheries Bernadette Jordan said they are always looking at ways to make sure that they best serve communities. Happy Mother's Day to Penny! You are the best boat Mom ever! Thank you for the years of love and treats. For the hugs and the words of wisdom. For the smiles and the tears. For everything you do to show your love for us we love you a million times back!
Memories of August 6th 2018-Hungry Hungry Humpbacks It was so exciting to join a humpback for lunch in the Bay of Fundy Nova Scotia. We were wowed while watching this #humpback #whale lunge feeding, surface skimming, and showing off a mouth full of baleen.
Another cold grey morning, temp -7C, wind chill -16C, wind NW 26 km/h with gusts to 35, some boats out. Yesterday there was some vapor in the Harbour and it is colder this morning but I don't see any but back on the shore the Bay of Fundy is full of it, there are a few flurries in the air. Did you know, One of the weather lore used by older people like me, Ha Ha, Sun dog in the South , storm approaching, Sun dog in the West, fine weather approaching. I enjoy watching the Sky ...regardless if any of these are believed or not. Something To Ponder, Love is rare, Grab it, Anger is bad, Dump it, Fear is awful, Face it, Memories are Sweet, Cherish them, Life is Short, Live it. Happy Sunday everyone, enjoy your day Eral & Florence, Love from home, Donnie, Marion ,, Cheryl & family, XO#brierisland #whalewatching #MarinerCruises #bayoffundy #visitnovascotia #getbackup #onedayatatime #bekindtooneanother #family #novascotiastrong #Love #Hope #lobsterfishing #Chad&SistersTwo See more
Fat cell size and pollutants give clues to whale health
There are many threats to whales that the average person has little to no control over but there is one simple thing that everyone can do to protect and preserve our whales and planet...Rethink your use of plastic products!
This is our most popular episode of 2019.
A cold morning with a few flurries in the air, temp-3C, wind chill -11C, wind ENE 41 km/h , boats secure. The fog horn is blowing and I sure enjoy the sound. Did you know, The town of Yarmouth holds the record for the most snowfall in 24 hours. It happened on February 18th & 19th 2004, 101cm. and Halifax and Dartmouth came in second with 95.5. There is just something about that natural beauty that falls from the sky that warms my heart. Everything looks so magical and clean a...fter a fresh snowfall. It is just falling slowly and sometimes if is thicker than others, so Freeport is fading in and out of my view. Something To Ponder, If you ever have to choose between being Kind or being Right. Choose being Kind and you will always be Right. #brierisland #whalewatching #MarinerCruises #bayoffundy #visitnovascotia #getbackup #onedayatatime #bekindtooneanother #family #novascotiastrong #Love #Hope #lobsterfishing #Chad&SistersTwo See more
The sun is taking a rest today, overcast and there is rain in the forecast, lets see if it happens, temp 14C, wind E 31 km/h. Did you know the Covid Alert app has gone live in Nova Scotia, please don't get confused it is not meant to replace the other Covid -19 control measures, still wear a mask, and wash your hands. Something To Ponder, A Wise person can find Peace in the Storm, Because they have seen Storms come and go Before. #brierisland #whalewatching #MarinerCruises #bayoffundy #visitnovascotia #atlanticbubble #getbackup #onedayatatime #bekindtooneanother #family #novascotiastrong #Love #Hope
Another Smile at the sun kind of day here on the rock, temp 13C, wind SSE 32 km/h. Did you know, I read a piece in the paper that reminded me of my Dad, Daniel Kenney. The tile was , You are never to Old to learn. Dad was always said to me Rosalind it is important to learn something new everyday. So ask lots of questions you just never know what you will learn today. Great advise don't you think? Oh how I miss him. Something To Ponder, The way to get Started , is to quit Talking and begin Doing. #brierisland #whalewatching #MarinerCruises #bayoffundy #visitnovascotia #atlanticbubble #getbackup #onedayatatime #bekindtooneanother #family #novascotiastrong #Hope #Love

There are many amazing birds on Brier Island.
Westport High School classes Grades 8 to 11, 1940, 1942 and 1943. Everyone is identified in the 1940 photo - use your detective skills to see if you can name ev...eryone in subsequent years. All photos were taken by Mrs. E.M. Harris of Lawrencetown, N.S. - a familiar name seen on group photos throughout this end of the province. #BrierIsland #schooldays See more
Oh the morning beauty is breathtaking, Diamonds so bright in the Harbour they are hard to look at, temp 10C, wind calm, SE 9 km/h. Did you know, In the city of Halifax it is out with the old and in with the new. Parking meters are being replaced by parking Kiosks. Something To Ponder, The Trees are showing us how Lovely it is to just let things Go. My youngest son Captain Chad Graham is homing, doing well thanks to the magical hands of his surgeon Dr. Morris, thank you from the bottom of my Heart for making a difficult decision so easy for Chad, your wisdom and skilled hands are appreciated. #brieirisland #whalewatching #MarinerCruises #bayoffundy #visitnovascotia #atlanticbubble #getbackup #onedayatatime #bekindtooneanother #family #novascotiastrong #Hope #Love

When the winds blow and the waves are rocking our ferry wharves take a beating. In early October the wharf in Freeport underwent some maintenance and construction. Our spare ferry, the Joe Casey, was used as a floating barge during the work.
Foggy, windy and more rain in the forecast for today, temp 15C, wind SSE 27 km/h with gust to 40. We have had some much needed rain and I hope more to come. Did you know, The boats set their traps today in the Digby area at 8 am. I wish them a great season and Fair Winds & Smooth Sailing. A sincere Thank You to Richard Welch and his family for their kindness and being there for us. My boys also appreciated all that you did. The good news is my youngest King Captain Chad Graha...m did well during his surgery, Thank you for your prayers and kind messages. Like Chad said this morning he is a Trooper and he is on top of the World, so what else could one ask for. It sure brought a lot of memories flooding back setting there yesterday looking at my gentle giant and thinking how tiny he used to be. Like he told me we have been through a lot together and this time around his brother Kenney, my oldest King was at the Helm for us, Thank you Darling for your Love and Compassion we are grateful. Something To Ponder, Love is not what you Say, Love is what you DO, we Love one another. #brierisland #whalewatching #MarinerCruises #bayoffundy #visitnovascotia #atlanticbubble #getbackup #onedayatatime #bekindtooneanother #family #novascotiastrong #Hope #Love See more
The waters off Brier Island has a visit from Nukumi, a very large female great white shark on October 11th. Nukumi is a shark that was recently tagged by OCEAR...CH Sharks are not uncommon in our waters as the absence of marine life is a buffet for these predators. Seeing this shark ping near us made us think about a humpback whale carcass that washed ashore on Brier Island in the summer of 2018 with very large gouges in the pectoral fins. The photos of the fins were sent to author Max Hawthorne who is a well known paleo-fiction author of the Max Hawthorne's Kronos Rising Novel Series. Mr. Hawthorne believed the gouges to be shark bites from a shark that was very large. We wonder if it was Nukumi who left her mark in the fins? Seals of Brier Island beware!
Did you know, I have my worry hat on this morning, why do you ask? well my youngest son, my gentle giant number four of my Love circle is in Halifax having major surgery this morning, Oh my Heart , how I Love Thee Captain Chad Graham. Something To Ponder, If someone needs a Smile give them one of Yours, we may need one today.
