The term velocipede refers to any human-powered land vehicle with wheels. The 3-wheeled velocipede car pictured above was used in railway maintenance. To operate, the vertical handle would be pumped to propel the velocipede forward. Additional foot pedals also provided extra power which made these cars an efficient and effective way to get around the track. ... Did you know the first main lines of transportation was on our waterways?! This was the norm until the late 1700s. In fact, Indigenous communities created portage routes that were connected to lakes, acting as paths for travelers. Many local rivers were too shallow for water travel year round, facilitating the need for paved roads that were often built alongside these original portage routes. Markham Provides many waterfronts to canoe and explore. Which will you visit this season? #water #travel #markhammoves
