It’s Wednesday and that means it’s time for our Member Spotlight!! Today we are featuring @andrewbric Definitely a familiar face at MTC! Say hello to Andrew How long have you been playing tennis? I’ve been playing for 14 years.... When & why did you join MTC? I joined in 2008 when I was 16 years old. How has tennis impacted your life? Markham Tennis Club has more or less been my primary residence up until the pandemic started. I’d say tennis more took over my life than just impacted it. Favourite tennis memory? My first time getting to watch Nadal play at the Rogers Cup What keeps you coming back to MTC each year? The incredible sense of family I feel with other members. Hitting with so many different people, the lazy summer afternoons in the clubhouse and the countless intercounty nights with friends will always be remembered. One-handed or two-handed backhand? Two handed backhand #markhamtennisclub #ontariotennis #tennislife #tenniscanada https://instagr.am/p/COfte5GA5lD/

Say hello to Mack Zhou! Mack’s picture makes us look forward to getting back out on the court. How long have you been playing tennis? I've been playing tennis for about 10 years now. Casually for the first couple of years, and more frequent in the last few years.... When & why did you join MTC? I joined MTC just 3 years ago when I moved from Richmond Hill to Markham. I was looking for a new summer club on the east side of Markham and MTC seemed to be the perfect fit. How has tennis impacted your life? Well, playing tennis has definitely helped me achieve my fitness goals. Getting enough exercises seemed a bit more purposeful if that translates to better performances on the tennis courts as well. It also helped me expand my social network quite a bit - getting to know players in Richmond hill and Markham. Favourite tennis memory? My favourite tennis memory is probably meeting Rafa back in 2015. My wife and I were visiting London at the time, and saw Nadal with his uncle Toni (who was still his coach at the time) at the hotel lobby. He was there for the Nitto ATP finals and had just lost a match. He was nice enough to chat for a while with us, even though we could tell he wasn't in the best mood. What keeps you coming back to MTC each year? Various clinics, programs & ladders are always enjoyable. Plus the friendly staff & coaches. One-handed or two-handed backhand? 2 handed backhand #tennislife #markhamtennisclub https://instagr.am/p/CONypPVA5B0/

Dear Members, Happy Canada Day to all members of the Markham Tennis Club! This Canada Day may be quieter but the true north remains strong in the face of Covid-19 challenges. Our celebrations may feel a little different this year but we can extend the world the same old Canada it knows - generous, cordial and most of all, proud of its diversity. Good morning members, We have the pleasure of announcing that as of June 19th, the City of Markham will be moving into Stage 2 of re-opening, which allows us to implement the following changes: Doubles play will be allowed, which includes 4 individuals from separate households. Players serving should use their own tennis balls, along with continued frequent hand sanitizing Group Lessons and Junior Clinics will be allowed to run with the same rule of 4 people per court plus 1 ...coach We have been working very closely with the City to prepare for these advancements and are working diligently to ensure the safety and health of our members going forward. Although we are adding additional services and changes are being made to restrictions, we still ask our members to be respectful of other’s space and maintain social distancing. A couple things to note: There will be no washroom access All play must be supervised by a monitor or volunteer Members are allowed to bring their own chairs to the court to sit down during changeovers but are required to maintain 6 feet distance with others We are very excited to bring these changes forward to our members and increase our ability to play. We still highly recommend that all members carry their own water bottles, towels and sanitizers while at the club. We would like to thank you for your ongoing patience and your cooperation moving forward. Full protocols and updated Rules of the Court can be found on our website: https://ift.tt/2AwqJQU MTC Board and Staff https://instagr.am/p/CBnpwccgyQS/ See more
