Barn tack room high wall maintenance This post is for reference and education for our customers that are trying to decide between different types of mini split systems. This is a typical High wall unit installed in our tack room. The amount of dirt and mold here is normal to find in a residential home after 2-3 years. Deep cleans that take 2-4 hours and are necessary every few years for these units to function properly and safely. ... Theses high wall units are a great solution for areas that need cooling and heating where there are no other options, however be prepared to spend some decent money on maintenance over its lifetime. If you currently have one of these units installed, look inside the louvers at the blower wheel, I’m sure you’ll be surprised and possibly shocked at what you find, and then I imagine I’ll be hearing from you.

Before and After of a two day attic air handler AC system. Even if the jobs arent the best or easiest to work in, you always have to try to make them look as good as you can and try to make them service friendly for the tech thats coming in behind you for maintenance. This existing duct had an interior fibre board insulation that seemed to work ok. We would have loved to replace all the duct, however sometimes we have to do whats best for the customers budget. Two of our recent installs. One is a two zone ducted cassette and the other is a single zone ducted cassette. This has been my solution for anyone wanting absolute comfort on the top floor of their home. I have this set up in my house and I love it! No big bulky piece of equipment in the attic that would need to be accessible for service. This new customer has paid one of the big guys close to $400 a year for heating and plumbing protection. Friday they red tag her for a cracked heat exchanger during a yearly routine maintenance. They pointed inside the burner box and said there are multiple cracks in the heat exchanger. They then pass it off to sales. Sales person comes in and has a great deal and a great plan to get the install done that day for them. Cost was steep but giving them the benefit of the dou...bt, it was a weekend and they are a big company. Cost aside, something didnt seem right, the sales person getting angry leaving without a signed contract didnt help that feeling. We are glad they knew us through family and called for a second opinion. From what the customer had told me and to where they were pointing at the cracks I knew I should do an inspection for myself. Performed a combustion analysis to find this older Nordyne Mid efficiency furnace burning cleaner than most of the new equipment that is installed today. We promote yearly maintenance, we also promote educating customers on their equipment, and how things operate within there home. We do not promote maintenance guys shutting down furnaces for a commission cheque a week before the Christmas holidays. If you want an honest, professional opinion and inspection on your equipment. This lake house just became the most comfortable lake house of all the lake houses! 3 @boschhvac IDS 2.0 heat pump systems paired up with #trane variable speed furnaces. Having 3 units mounted on the foundation, we took precautions installing some really nice isolators to dampen any vibrations created by the inverters when running at their higher frequencies. Efficiency and comfort were some of the reasons for this upgrade, however the main reason was for construction heat ...and back up heat. This cottage is supplied with natural gas which doesnt usually need a heat pump system to offset operating costs. Our Natural gas providers do not allow us to turn on and gas equipment during construction due to dust and debris entering the new equipment. SO! I had a few choices to pick from on the truck. Knowing how the new thumb bleeders need a wrench to actually tighten from day 1 I opted to go with the latest and the greatest in bleeder technology. WE LIVE AND WE LEARN! This job has been the definition of living and learning. This job started out as a Viessmann Vitodens 100 in 2012. It turned out I undersized it not taking into account the zones returning through the basement floor heating the floor.. In stepped the Navien, it was a larger output boiler that allowed for the existing 2 venting to be used. Perfect!... or so I thought. From day one we had issues. Mainly noise complaints. The Navien sounded like a big rig... shifting gears right out your front window. We dialed in combustion, we even had Navien themselves some and take a look. They stated nothing could be done and that its normal operation. SO we sound proofed the room! We tried sound proofing the cabinet of the boiler! We did all we could do, the customer saw our efforts and told us we have done all we could do and he would live with it . Already being out of pocket a ton I could only agree.. This Navien was installed for 5 years, we had a few issues over the years aside from the noise and one major one yesterday. The heat exchanger collector running up the back of the heat exchanger cracked wide open, caused by poor fuel to air mixture. The gasket leaving the top of the boiler failed recirculating exhaust into the cabinet and causing brutal ignition blowing apart the collector. Navien would warranty the heat exchanger but I wouldnt see it until mid week which doesnt do anything for my customer left without heat and hot water. Seeing all the issues they have had with this Navien and their patience over the years, in steps the quiet reliable IBC work horse. This swap boiler and all time and material was on the house, and probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. I wish I was installing these IBC units 5 years ago and this would of all have been avoided...you live and you learn! #ibcboiler #hydronics @ St. Catharines

Always be aware and be sure you are dealing with someone who knows what they are working on. Its always frustrating and sad to see customers spending unnecessary hard earned money on something they do not need. This Condo building in Welland that was built 10 years ago has already had contractors in it that didnt know what they were working on and replaced expensive equipment rather than performing proper service and maintenance. This customer was wise enough to get a second opinion. The skypak units that are installed are known for plugged condensers but other than that are great condo units in my opinion.
