A blind dog and his seeing eye cat will soon be looking for a forever home after the pair was taken in by an Alberta animal rescue group. Spike and Max hav...e been together their entire lives but their original owners realized they could no longer give them the care they need. The animals were living outdoors. Because Spike is blind, he relies on Max to get around. The cat has just kind of helped him in his little survival trek. They follow each other everywhere, they do every activity together and they sleep together, the director of the Saving Grace Animal Society said. When we were letting them out yesterday, the cat would walk around and the dog would just go looking for it. He kind of looked at it as more of a comfort animal and a seeing eye cat, as we called it. Because the pair has spent their entire lives together, they will be adopted out together. They came in as friends and they deserve to find a home together." **Author credit: Helen St.Pierre owner of No Monkey Business Dog Training** Repeat after me. Muzzled dogs are NOT BAD DOGS. Muzzled dogs have good humans. ... Muzzled dogs can have more experiences because they are managed. Their quality of life is INCREASED because of the muzzle. Muzzled dogs can still have treats. Muzzled dogs are not miserable. Muzzled dogs are muzzled for ALL KINDS OF REASONS. Not just aggression. Maybe they eat too much stuff off the ground and get sick. Maybe they play too rough. Maybe they over correct when startled. Maybe they want to eat squirrels. Maybe they need to learn better social skills. Not all dogs in a muzzle have a bite history, some have them on to prevent that in the first place. Sometimes the muzzle is more for the HUMAN than the DOG because it allows them to feel more confident. Big dogs, small dogs, and all breeds and sizes need muzzles sometimes. It is not a breed specific tool. Muzzled dogs are GOOD DOGS WITH GREAT HUMANS who are setting their dog up to not fail. Judging a dog in a muzzle and their owner is the same as judging someone for wearing a helmet. They are choosing safety and being proactive and it takes WORK to get your dog to a level that they are happily working and walking around in a muzzle so kudos to the humans and dogs I work with who put that time in to better their dogs lives. If you see a dog in a muzzle, don’t stare, don’t ask rude questions, just say nice job, great looking dog! And carry on. Believe me, you will have just made that humans day.

UPDATE: THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR PROMPT RESPONSE TO THIS POST. SAVE A DOG NETWORK HAS BEEN ABLE TO PURCHASE $4000 WORTH OF FOOD, PLUS WE HAVE INCREDIBLE BUL...K DONATIONS COMING IN. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING THERE IS SADLY NO WAY TO SUGAR COAT THIS. Our Northern dogs are starving. The need to help right now is dire. Through Save A Dog Network Canada, efforts are in the works to get these remote communities food. Not only do strays need food, but also owned dogs, where resources and funds are scarce. The price of a dog food in these communities is often double what we pay here. BUT, we can help. For only $20 YOU CAN SPONSOR A BAG OF DOG FOOD to help feed these poor babes. I am also working on getting food donations to our rescue partners, through some wonderful connections I have. I am also creating a Flights For Hope Dog Supply list through Amazon. The supplies collected here will also be donated to our rescue partners. Wherever the need is the greatest. Items include reflective dog collars, ID tags, flea and tick treatment, etc. https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/2WR14KNU0UFMN Until rescue can help these dogs, and the pandemic restrictions are lifted, allowing spay and neuter clinics, etc these areas need assistance. This is the sad reality in many communities. When the stray population gets out of control, for public safety communities have to host dog culls. No one wants this. These dogs depend on us to help them. Before its too late. Please consider helping in ANY way you can. Even if it is just clicking that SHARE button. If you feel really compelled to help, make our URGENT FOOD NEEDED poster YOUR profile picture. Spread the word. Let's do what we can. Together, we CAN do something. Etransfers/PayPal donations can be sent to [email protected]. Please put in the note section 'FOOD'. https://www.facebook.com/SaveADogNetworkCanada THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Oct 1st is National Black Dog Day! It’s National Black Dog Day today A special day devoted to highlighting black dogs in shelters & rehoming centers around t...he globe, just because of their colouring they are less likely to be adopted crazy! Did you know that? (Same with black kitties!) This day was created to bring awareness to adoptable black dogs, who often spend more time in shelters than their many-colored counterparts. Let's see those beautiful black doggies! Photo courtesy and information courtesy of https://nationaldayreview.com/national-black-dog-day/ #OASnationalholiday #nationalblackdogday2020

Applications pending Thank you so much to everyone who applied to Xena! We have received wonderful applications and will be reading through applications, an...d arranging Xena to meet her new family! We will update this post when she is officially adopted! Welcome to our virtual adoption experience Roll out the red carpet for Xena! This gorgeous lady is looking for a fresh start. We don’t have much of a history on her but what we do know is a bit of a puzzle. Xena has a microchip that was never registered. Her microchip is a Polish chip! World traveler over here. We believe she was brought in from Poland. Xena was found left tied to an abandoned farm guarding a farming area but this overly friendly lady just wanted some love when she was found! She really had no interest in guarding. We have estimated Xena to be around 1 year old. She is a longhair shepherd and is just stunning! Xena absolutely loves people and is very friendly. She needs to be the only pet in the home as she has requested to hog her new family to herself (Princess over here!) Xena has shown some dog reactivity on leash and will need some training to help her curve this behaviour. Xena seems to respond well to hand commands. The hand commands we have figured out that she knows are sit and lay down. More to come! We aren’t sure she currently understands English but being so young it will be a learning curve for her! If you are interested in adopting Xena, please apply. We will be accepting multiple applications on this girl to make sure we find her best fit. special thanks to Kit'N'Ka-Poodle Pet Grooming Salon for the spa day !!! Xena's case ID is A064142 How does this work? Please take a look through our available adoptables here: https://www.oshawa.ca/residents/adoption.asp Complete the adoption application form: https://forms.oshawa.ca//Strategic-and-Busine/Dog-Adoption After your application is submitted online, OAS staff will arrange a phone interview to complete the adoption process. At this time, there is no public access to the shelter to meet the dogs but a meeting will be arranged for the successful adopter. Thank you for understanding! #OASvirtualadoptions

Name: Duke Breed: Mastiff St Bernard x Age: 2 years Weight: Approximately 120 lbs... Duke is searching for a foster to adopt home, the reason being is this ham gets very attached to his people but is about a month away from being fully vetted and ready for adoption. In our eyes he shouldn't have to wait that long and truly needs an amazing home now that he can settle into. Duke is great with other dogs he has met, because of his size were asking only families with kids 10+ apply, and no kitties...again due to his size. Duke loves the car, loves being outdoors but is a bit of a beast (his weight says enough) of course like many, he thinks he is a lap dog, loves to cuddle and just be your shadow. If interested in meeting Duke please send us an email at [email protected]
