Before online shopping, Eaton's distributed holiday catalogues for almost a century, advertising their products to prospective consumers. Check out popular toys and games of the past in this 1897 issue! #TBT #ToyThursday

The image is courtesy of Presque Isle Historical Society. I believe it is in Presque Isle, Maine. The description is: Prior to 1931, before Route 1 between Houlton and Presque Isle was plowed during the winters, children would hop on horse-drawn school buses, which included benches and a wood stove. Main Street in Presque Isle during those days was rolled instead of plowed, making these buses the ultimate ways for children to arrive at school on time.

First of all, we want to thank all of you who have been so supportive during our Reset Season. While we don't know where the spring will find us, we will be preparing for a 'live and in person' season. In the meantime, please continue to stay safe and to support each other and our local businesses! #MattawaStrong!

The Nazis nicknamed these female Soviet pilots the Nachthexen, or the "Night Witches," because the sound their planes made reminded them of a sweeping broom. An...d that noise was the only warning the Germans had before the pilots dropped bombs on them. "The planes were too small to show up on radar," an expert explained. "They never used radios, so radio locators couldn't pick them up either. They were basically ghosts." Completing 30,000 bombing raids over four years, the Night Witches were so successful that the Germans were convinced they'd been given injections that allowed them to see in the dark. Today is Orange Shirt Day. Here is a background of the days significance. You can also find more at https://www.orangeshirtday.org/resources--supplies.html. "Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis’s account of losing her shiny new orange shirt on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspec...ts of residential schools happening annually. The date was chosen because children are back in school and teachers have time to plan, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the year. Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and community agencies to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come." The Orange Shirt Society. (n.d.). Resources and Ideas: Information to assist with understanding and planning Orange Shirt Day. Retrieved September 30, 2020, from https://www.orangeshirtday.org/resources--supplies.html.
