How much data is enough data? We publish today a new study that establishes the minimal recording duration required to capture the typical fluctuations of indiv...idual brain activity in the resting state. In summary, we confirm that short, high-quality recordings of two minutes or even 30 seconds (depending on targeted brain rhythms or brain regions) are sufficient to yield robust estimates of frequency-defined brain activity during resting-state. We hope our study helps guide future empirical designs in the field, particularly when recording times need to be minimized, e.g., to maximize the comfort of patient or special populations, while ensuring that spectral brain signal derivatives are robust and reliable. Good-looking blog summary Thanks for reading ! https://www.neurospeed-bailletlab.org//how-much-data-is-en

First of all, we hope everyone is safe and in good health. As often in life, looking at how to turn adversity into unexpected opportunities can have prolonged, positive impact and change how we used to to things before, for the better. In this weird but very necessary period of self-isolation and distancing, we suggest we regroup and cheer thanks to Zoom, our new common friend. We would hereby like to initiate the BIC Covid Social Club, a very virtual but very real opport...unity for all of us to: - casually chat and share about our experience with distancing and WFH - look together into the next few weeks and turn the time to our advantage - present talks that got cancelled - organize Zoom training events, how-to workshops - chat about projects, initiate collabs etc. Basically things we’re having a hard time to do under more normal circumstances because we simply don’t have (physical and temporal) space for that on the BIC premises. First fiasco-or-bravo edition is tomorrow Thur Mar 26 @ 5-6PM EST. DM for link.

Very proud of our paper just published in Neuron, a heroic effort by Dr. Peter Donhauser. For two reasons: 1) We believe the approach sets a milestone for unpac...king brain responses to naturalistic stimuli - here natural speech 2) It's Sylvain's 100th peer-reviewed journal article! https://www.cell.com/neuron/fulltext/S0896-6273(19)30893-1
