The Canadian Trademarks Office has issued official notice that as of January 1, 2017, the latest edition of the International Classification of Goods and Services has been entered into force. At this point there is no additional government fees associated with classifying the goods and services in a trademark application or registration.

Interesting article. We hear the word "bully" so much these days, even in business. "Trademark bullying" is one we often hear in my profession. Granted they do exist, but you can't label every trademark owner who defends their trademark rights a bully. In the majority of cases, the reality is that those companies who are trademark savy and recognize the value in their trademarks, typically have a policing strategy in place to ensure the value of their trademarks, and the...ir ability to act as a trademark, is sustained. The "big guy" is simply protecting the investment they have made in their trademarks. And more often than not, the "little guy" simply did not do their due diligence before launch to ensure they weren't stepping on someone else's toes. No matter how big or small your business may be, it's always good business to understand the value in your trademarks (trade name) and invest in ensuring that they can be protected. See more
