Every year, our team extensively uses our 3D printer to manufacture structures to house our avionics and payload components. Your support towards our Seeds of Change campaign is crucial to help us procure the filament we need to manufacture 3D printed components! You can find our Seeds of Change page here! https://www.mcgill.ca/seedsofc/project/mcgill-rocket-team-0 #McGill24 #mcgillseeds #mcgillalumni

Our Aerostructures subteam is responsible for the rocket’s structural components. This includes designing and manufacturing the composite airframe, most internal structures, as well as assembling and finishing the rocket fuselage. This year, the subteam has been extensively developing prepreg, a new composite processing method. Fun fact: prepreg needs to be stored at -18 oC to preserve its material properties. You can find our Seeds of Change page here! https://www.mcgill.ca.../seedsofc/project/mcgill-rocket-team-0 By donating to our Seeds of Change campaign, you are contributing to the successful development of our prepreg project! #McGill24 #mcgilseeds

Today, we close our presentation with the Payload subteam! The Payload subteam is in charge of designing a scientific experiment to ride on the rocket! We work with several domains of engineering and science to design an apparatus to accommodate the experiment. We typically study biological processes, but we work together to come up with new ideas and experiments. Since the Payload is multidisciplinary, we tend to have a diverse set of members from the engineering and science faculties! Hopefully our work will help us better understand the systems we study!

McGill Rocket Team 14.07.2020

Say hello to our propulsion subteam! Propulsion designs and tests the rocket's motor and all supporting components to integrate it in the flight vehicle. The subteam is also responsible for the Rocket Team's engine test site, located at McGill's MacDonald Campus, where we designed and built a facility to test our hybrid rocket motors. Tasks we do include infrastructure design and manufacturing, test data collection and analysis, flight motor design, plumbing delivery system design and much more ! Join propulsion if you love learning and applying multidisciplinary knowledge as required by the different tasks we undertake! Here's a brief preview of the infrastructure manufacturing work we do:

Thursday is Logistics day! Logistics people are the heart of the team. Responsible for designing merch, editing videos, organizing socials, and planning outreach events, they are the link between the team and the rest of the world. If you are creative, organized or like to meet new people, and want to learn about rocketry on in a more casual way, you will fit right in with our logistics folks!

McGill Rocket Team 18.06.2020

Today, we present the Aerostructure-Recovery subteam! Aerostructures and Recovery have merged as one subteam for this year! Aerostructures is in charge of designing, manufacturing and testing the rocket’s airframe. From the nose cone to the fins, we make sure that our composite material parts are of the best quality with our Vacuum-Assisted Resin Infusion process. Aerostructure members have good design skills and want to learn how to craft with their hands.... The recovery division ensures that we retrieve our rocket in good condition after launch by designing and manufacturing our ejection system and our parachutes, which are then respectively tested in a vacuum blast chamber and a high-altitude balloon going up to 30 000 ft! Recovery tasks are very multidisciplinary and thus require a lot of creativity and resourcefulness from our members.

McGill Rocket Team 14.06.2020

Hello future members! To help you decide which subteam is the best fit for you, we will be presenting all of them this week! First, we have Avionics!... Avionics designs the critical flight electronics which include providing power to electrical devices in the rocket, sending important flight data obtained from different sensors on the rocket to our people on the ground, and ensuring that the rocket body separates at apogee. Our members learn to code, prototype electrical circuits, interact with different sensors, and much more, striving for reliability! Our work help the team reach greater heights each year!

McGill Rocket Team 12.06.2020

We have the pleasure to announce that the team will be back in action this Fall and will be welcoming new members! Our leads worked hard all summer to prepare for online training! The official recruitement period will start soon so stay tuned In the mean time, we invite you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and to enjoy this lovely video presenting the team!

McGill Rocket Team 30.05.2020

This week is around the time when we would be preparing to compete with other universities around the world in the Spaceport America Cup. Even if we couldn't compete this year due to the ongoing pandemic, we would like to thank our sponsors and donors for their generous and continuous support throughout the year with this special video! Our goal of encouraging student-led design advancements in rocketry wouldn't be possible without your help. We also want to send a special thank you to our Seeds of Change donors, your help will allow us to keep competing in the years to come! Thank you for helping us achieve our rocketry dreams, and see you soon with more exciting #aerospace activities to come!

McGill Rocket Team 15.11.2019

Unfortunately, in light of the pandemic, Spaceport America Cup has been cancelled for this summer. Although the team is saddened by this, we support the decision to put the health of students, faculty and industry representatives above all else. We are already setting our sights on SAC 2021 and know that the progress we made this year will lead to some of our best launches yet!

McGill Rocket Team 06.11.2019

Like most universities and student groups, we are on hiatus due to the ongoing pandemic. The team is continuing to do remote work such as writing reports and documentation. Until we're back, we hope everyone stays safe and follows government guidelines!

As today marks T-1 day to #Mcgill24, we wanted to highlight our amazing Payload subteam. If you wish to support their project and many others, please consider donating at bit.ly/MRTDonate The Payload subteam is responsible for creating the experiment we are going to launch aboard our rocket in order to give meaning to our activities. The first reason why we use rockets is to be able to perform experimentation and collect data. Since the team's creation, several payloads ha...ve been developed. This year these include a bacteria sampling experiment to study the microorganisms present at high altitude and a vibration detector in order to understand how vibrations taking place during flight affect our rocket. They are constantly looking for new ideas for our future launches #mcgillseeds #McGillTakeOff McGill Seeds of Change #mcgillproud
