It feels as though summer is right around the corner. The grass is greening and its staying light later in the evening. It's a great time to throw on your sneak...ers, grab a leash and take your dog out for some fresh air and explore your neighbourhood, a City trail or one of our many dog parks. Please remember: For the safety of all - Dogs must be on a leash when on public property - this includes green spaces. The fine for violating this bylaw is $100. If you want to let them run, please visit one of the City's many off-leash parks. https://www.edmonton.ca//parks/off-leash-area-updates.aspx

After a sudden drop in temperature, the City advises caution as roads and sidewalks may be icy and pose a risk of slips and falls for Edmontonians. Crews are wo...rking to address ice and buildup on roads and City-maintained pathways, including putting graders out to remove ice from gutters to allow water flow when the temperatures rise. The City will have resources out in order to reduce the risk to citizens but as temperatures fluctuate, roads and sidewalks may become slippery. Salt/sanders are out keeping roads safe during freeze-thaw cycles. If your residential road received ruts due to the warm weather, or has unsafe conditions, please report them through the 311 app and crews will be dispatched. Slippery sidewalks are dangerous for everyone. Property owners are asked to ensure sidewalks adjacent to their property are safe to walk on and clear of snow and ice. Please use sand/salt to improve traction. Free sand is available throughout the city at City of Edmonton roadway maintenance yards and community league halls. If a community sandbox is empty, please call 311. For residents setting out their waste for collection, please clear the snow and ice from around your collection area and spread sand for traction. This will help keep waste collectors safe.

The McLeod rink will open later this week, barring any unexpected events. (Yes, I have been paying attention to 2020.) To keep us compliant and save in the COVID environment, we are requiring registration. You can sign up for a cohort that you will be assigned to for the entire skating season. No hockey will be permitted initially. Both rinks will just be public skating. Once we have a better understanding of AHS rules and a feel for how the rink is working under these rule...s, we should be able to open up for hockey on the east (larger) rink. All skaters must have a Community League membership. If you need one, you can buy it online from https://efcl.org/membership-purchase/ No memberships will be sold at the rink. We ask that, until Saturday the 19th, only McLeod members sign up. People from other Community Leagues are welcome to sign up after that. For those who sign up, you will get an email later this week, once we know the opening date for the rink, with the full set of rules. Please don't sign up if you don't intend to use this. We only have 160 spots available initially. Skaters who don't attend for 2 consecutive weeks will be removed and space made for a different skater. (Exceptions will be case-by-case.) Please sign up each skater individually. For example, a family of four should show up as four separate names. Duplicate registrations will be deleted. It is okay to use the same email address for each family member, but the names must be different. Public skating sign up: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/public-skating-sign-up-west-rin Hockey rink sign up: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/hockey-sign-up-east-rink-regist
