As we move into the cooler seasons, it is important that we all remain diligent about good hygiene practices, not only to combat the spread of COVID-19, but also to avoid our usual seasonal ailments such as other respiratory infections, colds, and influenza. While wearing masks may help decrease the spread of these illnesses as well, it is still important to wash your hands, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, and get your flu shot! We will be offering flu shots at the pharmacy beginning after Thanksgiving. We ask that you please wear a mask when you come into the store for any reason, including vaccination.

Children are naturally curious about everything, which is why it is extremely important to keep ALL medications, including over-the-counter pills and vitamins, out of sight and reach of your children. Its also a good idea to talk to your child about the dangers of taking medicine that isnt theirs, once they reach an appropriate age.

Lets talk about cloth face masks. In the photo below, our fashionable staff are modelling the correct way to wear a non-medical face mask. It is very important to make sure your mask covers your mouth AND your nose, and that you do not remove your mask within indoor public spaces for any reason (except to eat or drink in restaurants). You should wash your mask after every use, and never share a mask with someone else. We know the masks can sometimes be a pain (especiall...y for those with glasses!) but we all must do our part to keep each other safe! For bespectacled folks, we recommend choosing a cloth mask with a distinct nose seam or flexible nosepiece. This will help cut down on the fogging. Self-quarantine and self-isolation are terms that you likely hear daily in our current chaotic world. But what do they actually mean? The Government of Nova Scotias website only uses the term self-isolation, but its fair to say that some people use self-quarantine in the same fashion. Self-isolation means staying in one dwelling for 14 days, without any physical contact with others, and without any trips to the grocery store or anywhere else. Youre legally required to self-isolate for 14 days if you: are waiting for your COVID-19 test results have tested positive for COVID-19 have tested negative for COVID-19, but had close contact with someone who has or is suspected to have COVID-19 have been told by Public Health that you may have been exposed and need to self-isolate are returning from travel outside Atlantic Canada, even if you dont have symptoms There are some exemptions to these guidelines, which can be found at https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/restrictions-and-guidance/. You are not required to self-isolate if you are arriving in one Atlantic province from another (the Atlantic bubble). If you are a university or NSCC student arriving from outside the Atlantic bubble, you must be tested for COVID-19 before the end of your self-isolation period.
