Men United for God Food Bank

Every Tuesday, people line up in an alley for food and clothing at the Men United for God Food Bank. Even though our doors do not open until 10:00 a..m., many people are there at 8:30! Be it rain or shine, below freezing weather, snow, humid days, they stand and wait in line until it is their turn to enter the food bank to receive their portion of food for their families. People in wheelchairs, those with walkers and canes, elderly men and women, families with children an...d babies, all wait patiently. No one is asked for identification; the only request is that they bring a bag or two to carry their groceries. We encourage you to come to see us, especially on a Tuesday. It will certainly give you a glimpse of the needs within our community. Let one of the staff know who you are and we will share how the operation works. Our Food Bank has been kept open through the generosity of the Windsor Community who provide financial donations and food and clothing donations. The food bank is independently operated and receives no money from the government. All of our staff are volunteers who give of their time and effort to be there each week. A big thank you to those individuals and companies who have helped us over the years!

Boxes of huge, beautiful red tomatoes were donated again by Forgotten Harvest this week! These guys are awesome! The people love them because they are so versatile in cooking -- pastas, soups, sandwiches, chili, salsa, smoothies, juice and so many more uses! Tomatoes are the most requested item. Kind donors within the community are dropping off clothing and a variety of canned goods, pastas, etc. to keep our shelves stocked. We also encourage you to continue supporting ...us financially. There are many costs associated with keeping the food bank afloat. We do not receive any government support and all the people who work at the Food Bank do so on a volunteer basis. There are no salaries involved, nor has there ever been. . Yesterday at the Food Bank, well over 200 people came through the line to be fed/clothed! Many of them are supporting families with 2 - 6 children. Thank you to all! We love Windsorites for their giving hearts!!!

We thank God for the donation of potatoes and tomatoes today from Forgotten Harvest! We would also like to thank so many others for their continued support in providing food and financial donations to our Food Bank so we can, in turn, help those who stand in line waiting to be clothed and fed on a weekly basis. We are so encouraged by the kindness and selflessness of the Windsor community! Thank you!

May God bless you in 2016. 2015 has had its challenges but with the generosity and support of the Windsor community, we were able to provide the basic necessities of food and clothing for thousands of people over the past year. We cannot thank you enough!!!!

A family of four has a dire need for a refrigerator. If you have, or know someone that can donate one, please contact us on our website. We will make arrangements for pickup. Our food bank is staffed by volunteers only! We thank everyone who gives selflessly of their time and energy on a weekly basis to feed and clothe those in need.

We are extremely grateful to the Board, volunteers and players of the Windsor/Essex Football League who stepped up to the plate during our food drive. Over 1,000 cans of food were collected by these wonderful volunteers to help us provide for those who are unable to possess the bare necessities of life such as food and clothing! A heart-felt thank you from all of us to all of you! Thank you! Thank you!

One of our faithful volunteers who was collecting donations in her neighborhood for the Food Bank, came across a family sitting on their front porch. The woman apologized explaining that her family was not able to contribute anything. As a matter of fact, they had to go to the food bank to get food to feed their own family. As the volunteer turned to leave, their little 10 year old daughter, Sam, asked, "Do you accept money?" When the volunteer said that we do, Sam's eyes... lit up and handed over $1.60, which was the entire contents of her piggy bank! Sam's father was overheard praising his little girl for her giving heart. This family had nothing and the child gave all she had!! The next day, the volunteer returned to the family's home to to ask permission to share this story on Facebook. The family gave the volunteer a $50 donation from a blessing they had just received! This family, in our opinion, is very rich indeed! God will surely bless those who look beyond their own need to touch the lives of others!
