Dear patients, We hope that you and everyone else in the community is staying safe and healthy. As you know, our office, along with every other dental office in Canada, has now been directed to shut down until further notice. We will be contacting all our patients who are mid-treatment with followup appointments and rebooking them sometime into the future.... Dentists have been advised to only treat life threatening emergencies (such as facial trauma, facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding) and to avoid contact at all possible. If treatment is critical, only a dentist with proper protective equipment can provide such treatment. Unfortunately these protective gears are very scarce. We at Mercato Dental Centre, like most other dentists, dont have this high protection level equipment. So regretfully, we are not permitted or able to see our patients in person for any treatment. What this means is that if the dental treatment can possibly wait, then it should. If we can manage the problem with medications such as antibiotics or pain-killers, we will, after telephone consultation, prescribe these over to the pharmacy. Having said that, it does not mean we want you dealing with problems on your own. We are available to speak with you about anything that might come up. What we want to avoid, is for delayed dental conditions becoming so serious, that patients end up in the ER. What we in the dental community must do is to reduce the pressure on the medical system. We must keep lines of communication open and to provide our patients with guidance. Regardless of the limitations imposed on us, our duty as your dental provider has not changed. Please just text or call 236-818-9708. Dont be tempted to self-diagnose. Let us decide whether your issue is an *emergency* or not. Often there are simple solutions that can be agreed upon over the phone. Lets work together, to keep your dental health on track. To all our patients, we have been diligently following all of the information provided by the government as well as the Regulatory Bodies of Dentistry. As per the latest update, we have decided to do our part in protecting the public, and therefore we will be suspending all routine dental procedures with the exception of emergency care until the end of March. A true emergency situation includes: oral facial trauma significant infection, or prolonged bleeding or pain, which ca...n not be managed by over-the-counter medications. As we do not have N-95 masks, we are unable to safely provide dental treatment, but we can provide pain management options for instances such as the above. Please text us at 236-818-9708 if necessary. We will update you as more information becomes available. Barring any new information and changes from our governing and regulatory bodies, we shall reopen on April 1st, 2020. In the meantime, stay safe, follow health precautions and be kind to everyone.
