Because of circumstances beyond our control due to the Covid 19 pandemic making fundraising this year almost impossible we have delved deep into our ‘rainy day’... funds to help those most in need. This year certainly qualified as a rainy day! At last Wednesday’s Zoom General Meeting members agreed to disburse $500 each to the following local organizations; Youth Services Bureau, Banff Ave Community House Food Bank, Nelson House & Interval House (women’s shelters), Caring & Sharing and Meals on Wheels ( for their Christmas programs) and the soon to be opened Veterans’ House for homeless veterans.

The idea behind our #WeSaluteYourService Challenge for #Veterans’ House is simple: Recognize someone’s #military service on social media, and then make a donation in their honour to Veterans' House Canada - MHI. Veterans’ House will provide 40 veterans who are homeless or at risk of being homeless with dog-friendly, supportive housing, mental health and addiction servic...es, an indoor gym, and communal gathering spaces. Trained service dogs can be beneficial for people who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), operational stress injuries, anxiety disorders and other mental health conditions. Veterans' House will not only be dog-friendly, it will have a dog park area. Commissionaires Ottawa will MATCH EVERY DOLLAR up to $150,000 if you donate to this Multifaith Housing Initiative housing project between now and December 31.
