Surveyors are often first on sight, even when indoors. Scanning with a Trimble SX10 allows us to see colours on one half and intensity readings on the other half inside of this school. For this project, information was then shared with engineers for review and used to complete the required work.

Last call for water work Our team has been hard at work taking advantage of the last of the Fall season before the big freeze of the year. We’ve been busy performing river crossing surveys, which are a vital step our clients take to ensure the integrity of their pipeline systems.

Our offices may be spread across Western Canada with numerous employees working from home, but that didn’t stop us from coming together to have a little fun this Halloween. We decided to host a virtual pumpkin carving contest and our employees did not disappoint! We hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween

We had a chance to catch up with one of our Survey Assistants who is working in the field for the first time this winter After experiencing his first blast of snow near Hinton, he shared with us that winter in the field will be a challenge for him, but he’s up for it! He’s never worked outside for extended periods of time in the cold, however he is looking forward to finally working outdoors in temperatures below freezing.... We love his honesty, determination, and grit!

While recently completing an RPR, one of our Party Chiefs took a quick trip into Pasqua Lake with an SX10 scanner. Utilizing such technology ensures that we are able to provide the property owners with the highest level of accuracy possible.

Our team in Saskatoon has been hard at work on the North Tower in the River Landing in downtown Saskatoon. At 18-storeys, it will be the tallest building in the city, offering stunning views of the prairies and the South Saskatchewan River, as well as home to various amenities. We are proud to be part of such a unique project and excited to watch it flourish!

Midwest is an employee owned and operated company and this past weekend we had our annual shareholders meeting. While we werent able to gather as a team like we normally would, we did have our employees join in via Microsoft Teams. One of our Land Surveyors used the opportunity to take advantage of the summer sun and attended via his Cypress Hills campsite. Not a bad place to get your work on!

The days are getting longer and temperatures are rising, which means the wildlife is out in full force Always make sure to keep your distance from a wild animal, giving them plenty of space and resist the urge to share snacks with them (no matter how cute they may be). Stay safe out there!

One of our field crews was in Cypress Hills earlier this week completing a couple of RPRs. Did you know? Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is a hilly diverse landscape in the middle of the great plains, with elevations reaching 1400m. It is located within two provinces, near the SE Corner of Alberta and the SW corner of Saskatchewan.

A couple of our Party Chiefs were in the Frenchman Valley last week, completing preliminary work for some upcoming archeological work, and we have to admit that we are loving these views! Very tranquil and very Saskatchewan. What does your office look like today?

Happy Earth Day As surveyors, we truly love the land and our earth, which is why many of us choose it as a profession. In our free time, we enjoy hiking, camping, and being in the great outdoors. We work hard to protect the environment, adhering to strict guidelines that help to preserve the ecosystems in which we work live, work, and play.

It wouldnt be spring in Canada without a bit of snow! The banks were so deep near Beaver County that one of our Crew Chiefs had to dig a hole for himself to hammer spikes into the ground. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, we hope you are safe and well

Social distancing is one of the most effective things that we can do to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Two of our field staff utilized survey equipment to demonstrate the appropriate amount of space that is needed to practice responsible social distancing. Stay safe and stay healthy!

We think its safe to say that 2020 will be remembered as the year of working from home, which is why we wanted to share some of our employees new colleagues and creative setups. We also want to thank all of those who are unable to work from home we appreciate everyone working on the frontlines right now. Tough times dont last, but tough people do!

Congratulations to our Assistant Manager in Regina, Suresh, for receiving the 2019 Member of Distinction award from the Regina & Region Home Builders' Association at the Master Awards on February 1. The Member of Distinction Award is presented to a Non-Builder Member in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Regina & Region Home Builders' Association. In 2019, Suresh helped to review the new Regina Zoning bylaw on behalf of the association. Suresh has been with us for 13 years and possesses a wealth of knowledge. He is always willing to share his expertise with others and we feel very lucky to have him on our team!

Our Calgary Equipment Coordinator, Tim Rinquist, has been with us for 30 years talk about a milestone He started working with Midwest in the 70s as a Chainman, became a Crew Chief soon after, and he now helps coordinate our equipment (and theres a lot of it). Cheers to 30 years, Tim! Youve been a real pleasure to work with!

Life can be wonderful and amazing, but it can also be crazy and downright overwhelming some days. Which is why today, on #bellletstalk day, we want to encourage all of our employees, clients, friends, and family to check up on one other.
