This was one of our ads in an Estevan phone book in 1959 (yes, 61 years ago)! Our offices in Estevan and Regina opened in 1956, along with our Edmonton and Fort St. John offices. While our ads have changed over the last six decades, our love of the land hasn’t.

And just like that, it’s a new year! 2020 was a strange year and regardless of what you do or where you live - you felt the impact. We’re looking forward to new opportunities while continuing to work on exciting existing projects. We have a good feeling about 2021 and we hope you do too!

Everyone this year has had an abundance of challenges, and this includes students who have encountered new and sometimes difficult learning circumstances. A big congratulations goes out to Natasha Dyck at Lethbridge College for turning these challenges into vehicles for growth and success! Natasha was recently awarded the Midwest Surveys Inc. Daylight hours are at an all time low - literally! Happy Winter Solstice We’re out before the sun is up and still there after it goes down. So, we asked how our team contends with this and one of our Crew Chiefs shared that headlamps are vital to help them perform their jobs during the early morning and late afternoon hours.

It was a lovely day for a frosty survey! We were in Cypress Hills last week doing some subdivision work for Saskatchewan Parks. Thank you to one of our Crew Chiefs for this awesome shot! We hope everyone working outdoors is staying warm and embracing the snow and cold (as much as possible ).

At Midwest, we know that construction deadlines come hard and fast. Our teams have vast experience working on such projects, ensuring that tight deadlines are met and last minute requests are accommodated. We’re proud to have worked on some notable infrastructure projects in Western Canada and look forward to helping complete many more, building a better future together.

Our field staff are often approached by animals while working, including this cute little guy who got up close and personal Thankfully, the majority of the time they’re harmless and just genuinely curious. What’s the most interesting animal you’ve encountered while working outdoors?

Supporting local has always been important to us and now more than ever our local charitable organizations need our help. Today, on Giving Tuesday, we are appreciative of all that we have and are inspired to give back to our communities. This holiday season, our 12 Days of Giving grants us the opportunity to support local food banks as well as 20 other outstanding charities across Western Canada.

Surveyors are often first on sight, even when indoors. Scanning with a Trimble SX10 allows us to see colours on one half and intensity readings on the other half inside of this school. For this project, information was then shared with engineers for review and used to complete the required work.

Last call for water work Our team has been hard at work taking advantage of the last of the Fall season before the big freeze of the year. We’ve been busy performing river crossing surveys, which are a vital step our clients take to ensure the integrity of their pipeline systems.

We had a chance to catch up with one of our Survey Assistants who is working in the field for the first time this winter After experiencing his first blast of snow near Hinton, he shared with us that winter in the field will be a challenge for him, but he’s up for it! He’s never worked outside for extended periods of time in the cold, however he is looking forward to finally working outdoors in temperatures below freezing.... We love his honesty, determination, and grit!

Our offices may be spread across Western Canada with numerous employees working from home, but that didn’t stop us from coming together to have a little fun this Halloween. We decided to host a virtual pumpkin carving contest and our employees did not disappoint! We hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween

We feel like we blinked and it’s October! We would like to thank all of our wonderful employees for their hard work and dedication over the past seven months. We have no idea what the last three months of the year will look like, but we are so grateful for all of the support that we have received in 2020.

It’s Safety Construction Week and safety is a number one priority for us at Midwest Surveys. We’re proud to share that thanks to the diligence of our employees we’ve gone 2500 days (that’s almost seven years!) with only one minor lost time injury. Stay safe, everyone!
