The Cadet Activity Program is moving to April! Re-save the dates! With Ontario's recent announcement that spring break will now be held the week of April 12-16, our plans for the Cadet Activity Program (CAP) will be aligned accordingly.... The Cruise-into-Spring CAP Challenge still promises to be a fun and exciting week. Given the date change, we will review availability and feasibility of locations and facilities (for possible in-person trials) and previously selected activities, guest speakersand daily schedules. We recognize the evolving COVID-19 environment, including the risk of new variants, and all CAP activities -- whether virtual or limited in-person -- will be conducted in accordance with Gov't of Canada, provincial and regional/local health authority direction and protocols. https://www.facebook.com/pg/OntCadets/posts/

Due to duty requirements and COVID restrictions many CAF Members will not be able to spend the holidays in Canada with their families. It would mean a great deal if you could send them a holiday greeting. To reach Members serving in the United States simply use the following address. 2990 Remembers! CI Steve Semenchuk thinks of his father every Veterans Week. His father, Stephen Semenchuk esq was 18 years old in 1940 when he joined the RCAF in Regina, Saskatchewan. After completing basic training and trades selection he took advanced training under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and qualified as a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner or WAG. His active service started with RCAF 160 Squadron conducting anti submarine patrols out of Sea Island BC and... later Yarmouth NS. In 1944 he was transferred to RCAF 423 Squadron, part of RAF Coastal Command, and flew out of RAF Alness, Scotland and RAF Castle Archdale (County Fermanagh) Northern Ireland. Flying the famous or infamous 'Short' Sunderland flying boat the Squadron conducted anti Submarine and Convoy Escort duties until the end of hostilities. He and his crew were credited with the sinking of, or causing serious damage to, several German U-Boats during their tour of duty. He left the RCAF holding the rank of Warrant Officer 1st Class (WO1) and in 1947 joined the RAF on a 3 year post war contract. After operational conversion training he was posted to RAF 37 Squadron which flew out of RAF Luga, Malta. The Squadron, flying the Lancaster Mk III, had various responsibilities including Search & Rescue and monitoring shipping transporting refugees and emergency supplies. His last posting with the RAF was in 1950/51 when he was part of the United Kingdom Air Staff (Ottawa ON). He completed his RAF contract March 1951, after which he became a Civilian Member of the Department of National Defense. His father made many lifetime friends during his service and also lost many friends. He passed away just after Remembrance Day in 1967. He is missed, he is remembered.
