I am currently reading a book that was written by Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson called "The Power of Showing Up". I HIGHLY recommend every parent read this book. Understanding how children develop attachment to their parents is life changing for a parent/child relationship. It will also open your eyes to your own attachment, or lack thereof with your caregivers and give you clues as to why you may have developed certain tendencies as an adult. It is time to break the... cycle that has been passed down over generations that allows us to think that yelling at, abusing and neglecting a child is acceptable. These types of behaviours toward children have life altering outcomes that can be avoided if we understand these topics and begin looking inside ourselves to improve. The following article touches on some of the work of these amazing Authors, but it goes so much deeper. Get yourself a copy from your local library or bookstore, you will be glad you did! See more

"As a busy parent, you need quality child care to help you balance your family and your career. Quality early learning and child care provided by caring, qualified early childhood educators lets you feel confident that your child is being prepared for the world. Quality doesn’t just happen on its own. In any field, quality is a function of a well-planned, well-funded system."

DID YOU HEAR? We are restructuring our half day preschool next fall (Sept 2021) to reduce the amount of children per teacher and increase the length of time of each session! This will allow for more one to one interactions for the children and more engaged and sustained play and learning. Our new class times also align better with families who have school aged children so there is time to drop off all of your children. We have now opened registration to current families and will be opening to the public on January 16th, 2021! For more information about the classes or to sign up for the virtual open house, please head to our website - www.mindful-child.com. Please share!

Who’s guilty?!

There are always things that we can be thankful for, despite the current circumstances of our lives. Spend more time reaching for those things rather than the ones that cause you stress. Your brain can actually be rewired to think more positively if you do it regularly!

To my ADHD son teacher at parent-teacher Interviews: Please don’t tell me my son can’t focus, I know he has ADHD. Please don’t tell me if only he would focus ...more his grades would be better, I know as I am the one who has to deal with his disappointment when he gets his test score which is much lower than what he should be getting. Please don’t tell me that he is disorganized, trust me I know I have lost count of the number of times he has forgotten his backpack; gym bag, a test, a project the list is endless. Please don’t tell me his grades don’t reflect his ability, I know as I am the one who has to keep reminding him that he is more than a number on a report card. Could you rather tell me that you see him struggling to focus but you are helping him to stay focused by reminding him to stay on task? Could you rather tell me that you understand his frustrations in not being able to focus? That you are optimistic that if you break the work up into chunks, allow him to move when he needs to, and provide him with prompts, he will start to see an improvement in his grades. Could you rather tell me that you are helping him to be organized by ensuring that he is using his agenda and checking in with him to make sure he is on task to complete projects and prepare for tests? Could you rather tell me that you are exploring ways to help him match his ability to his grades so that he can start to believe in himself and experience some academic success? You see when you tell me all the things that are wrong with him, you don’t realize that he is feeling this in the class. You see when you tell me he is disorganized I hear how frustrated you are, your body language says it all. He is watching your body language in class, he is sensing your frustration. You see when you talk about my son your lens is focused on all that he can’t do rather than all that he can. So please next time we meet can you remember that your words matter. They matter to me and they matter to my son.
