It’s so noisy in here sometimes. I’m an over thinker; I’ve usually got a thousand voices in my head, yelling over one another... judging, stressing, worrying, calculating, and over analyzing. Sometimes I just want to shut it all off. But I’m learning that silence and peace only comes with acceptance of the noise. When I try to stop the mind, I’m judging it. And judging IS the mind still doing it’s thing. But when I become The Observer and just witness what IS, without assig...ning it good or bad or stop, I begin to create acceptance. And when I create acceptance I subsequently create the space to move through and let go of whatever is going on in my head. I am loud, I am sensitive, I am emotional, I am too much, I am weird, I have trauma, I’m a worrier.... I’m IMperfect and THATS part of who I am and I’ll never even have a chance of changing those things until I accept and embrace and allow for them. So if you’re a self criticizing, over analyzer like me, my offering for you today is: Notice the thoughts. Observe them, and say oh hey, there is that critical voice again, oh, hey there is that worry again, oh, there is me doing X again. And just notice and breathe through it and let it be something you observe rather than judge or have to do something about. Give yourself the space to be the messy, chaotic, multifaceted, complex, beautiful mess that you are, and just notice with acceptance and compassion. Be whoever you are, honestly and unapologetically, and the love will come with simply allowing. HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY! I’m forever grateful that I found dance. It has changed and sustained my life in so many ways. I don’t know where I’d be without physical expression through mindful movement. Whether it’s teaching beginners to find their pelvic floor, or it’s the adrenaline of performing on stage, or the joyous free flow on the dance floor at a festival or party... dance is my teacher. ... It’s how I complete the stress cycle, even though sometimes it’s indirectly the source of my stress. It’s how I connect to my body even if sometimes I have to ignore my body and dance even when I want to rest. It’s how I feel powerful and strong, but also how I feel humble and frustrated because of all the myriad ways I can’t move yet, or ever. I value all these lessons even when they don’t feel so great. But mostly dance feels AMAZING. It’s my joy, my expression, my sensuality, my outlet, my connection to music, my somatic way of moving through this world. Thank you Dance, and thank you Dancers of the world for inspiring, for moving, for being you. Even if you don’t think you’re a dancer ... you are! Dance a little today, even just one movement. Shake your booty, do a two-step, jump up and down, sway side to side, float your arm through space... you’re dancing! It’s in our genes.
